Title: Taskbar playback controls and Windows 10
Post by: StFeder on September 15, 2015, 12:14:03 pm
Even after performing a clean install of windows 10 and upgrading to MC21 the taskbar control are still not working for me.

For me the taskbar controls of MC are not working with Windows 10. Are they for anyone else?
I'm talking about Previous, Play, Pause, Next control which appears at the bottom of the program thumbnail when hovering MC at the taskbar. They appear but clicking them doesn't have any effect.

This is interesting. They're not working for me either (on Windows 10). If I right click on the task bar controller and then select "Play/Pause" or "stop," they will work.

Edit: Okay, apparently they do work for me outside debug mode (Thanks Matt).

Hm, I guess I'm not in debugging mode?!  ;)

There was a similar problem a while ago that was caused by an antivirus program.

I was thinking about making a AV joke when starting this thread :)

Well, after using Comodo for a few years now (AV and Firewall) I now only use Windows AV (Defender) and FW. And of course added exclusions for MC. So it shouldn't be the AV. But as I am the only one facing this bug I'll try to figure out how to make it work again...

Thanks for the Feedback! I'll also have a look at the AV thread to see if there is something similar with my setup. Will report back if I make some progress...

Are you using anything like any type of custom Windows themes, theme tweaks, start menu replacements or Aero Glass mod type of things? Perhaps also things like WindowBlinds could break this too.

No, since installation of Windows 10 I use very few third party system tools as I want to keep my system fluid that time.

BUT: I found the reason. Most the time I start MC using a batch file which modifies the registry and copies some files to customize MC for different environments (Dance school, mobile Laptop use, docking station with three soundcards). Using this batch starts MC as administrator and: taskbar controls won't work. Starting MC as "normal" user makes them work as expected. I had the same batch files with windows 8(.1) and now problems using the taskbar controls.

MC bug, Windows 10 bug or just some weired security feature?

P.S.: How to start a file as normal user out of an admin batch?

This is fixed for the next build.  Taskbar buttons were not able to send click events to higher privilege (admin mode) windows, unless we explicitly opted in.
