Title: How to apply simple EQ settings to movies that will only play via direct path?

I think I need to rephrase my previous post where I said movies sound flat.

They do I believe because no EQ changes are being applied due to using direct path. How can I achieve custom EQ settings with movies as well? I want to retain the original output format such as channels atmos true hd etc, I simply wish to make changes to the base EQ settings.

Sorry if I am missing something basic but I could not find a solution to this as yet.
