There probably is a very obvious answer to this very basic question, but I give up and ask you guys:
Example:
I click on audio and in the pane I choose an artist with whom I have 20 cd's, some 200 songs all in all.
I hit the shuffle button and then play it MC starts playing this list in random. After some time, I would like
to locate the song on the list, find out whats next etc.
When I then scroll back and forth in this relatively large playlist, I have difficulties finding the current song, in order to see whats coming next.
The song that is marked with the yellow colour (using the new MC skin from JRiver) is the very first song on the list, and not the current.
I am aware of that the current is marked with a ">" at the left instead of the note symbol, and that the colour of the text is light blue, but it is still tricky to locate it quickly in a large list.
How do I easily and quickly find out where I am in the playlist?
Hope I managed to make myself clear.

Would the "Playing Now" button work for you?
-
No...I am in the playing now window, with a large playlist. MC has been playing for a while, and I can of course see in the track info which song it is, but I now want to locate this song in the playing now list, so I can determine what the next song in the list is.

Good question i sometimes need to find what is currently playing.
I would have thought this would have been under Locate
Locate: What is playing now
-
Ahh, so there is no other way pt than to scroll back and forth in the playing now list until I find it?
Good idea then to add it as a locate functionality.

Would the "Playing Now" button work for you?
If MC is already in "Playing Now" and the current highlighted track is playing, and then it moves to the next track, reclicking playing now will not move the highlight bar. The highlight bar only follows the currently playing now when "playing now" is selected when MC is not already currently in "Playing Now"
I've had the same desire, to easily see what the currently playing track is, other than the items already mentioned, it's just not distinct enough.
I wonder if there could be two highlighted bars? One color for the currently selected track and another color for the currently playing track?
Like YELLOW for the current playing now, BLUE for the current selected track and GREEN if the currently selected track was also playing now?

Another excellent suggestion I think

I'm still with MC 9.0 and don't know whether this has changed in 9.1
I normally have 25-30,000 songs in my "playing now"... so scrolling do not seem to be the best way to find where I am. At this point, what I do is simply clicking on a different button option, just as "Library" or something, and immediately click again the "playing now" button. That leads me to the currently playing song and does the scroll for me... it's two clicks and a fraction of a second.
Perhaps a different colour highlight bar would be great but... what if you have 30,000 songs in "playing now"? It won't work, I'm affraid.

that still works

that's what I call a very good "work-around"! didnt think
of this at all. simple is good :-)

I thought I remember reading some time ago that hitting the space bar would take you to the currently playing track when in playing now, or even when in a playlist with the current song playing being on the list. But alas, it doesn't. Sure would be great if it did, or some other quick key shortcut.
-
Easiest way I find of doing this is the display of the current song - not sure if it does as default but I have mine set to say: track 15/2345 or whatever so it tells you the current track - then I just have to scroll down to whatever number it says.
A locate tool would be great but this works though.
-
Good one Nila - I do that too. Here's another suggestion:
Currently if you double click the display area and you have the properties area of the AW open, MC displays the properties of the currently playing track. Just take this one step further so that MC jumps to and highlights the currently playing track.
This would be logical as, currently with the double click in the display area, you manage to get the properties displayed of a track that is not actually highlighted, which is inconsistent.
I'm proud of myself as I think I've finally had a good idea! That's 1 out of 470 posts. Now that must be a better ratio than Mr Sparta.

Thanks God for all the bright people in this forum -
and thank you everybody for various excellent solutions :-)

A solution would be like in another player:
In right click you have "show the playing track"
All the line of the playing track get in one color.
In settings you have the option:'Allways show the playing track'.
Small little things who make life nicer.
.. but MC/MJ is not that good at such small features....
Like ,YES, 'Eject Cd' button
