Title: Feature Request: Pane Fields Easier Browsing
Post by: stiv32 on October 16, 2015, 04:27:02 am
Hello,

Please add a search field at each Pane fields, which will discard things as we type.

I am really tired of browsing through hundreds of Names, Albums, Genres etc. to find the one that interests me. And what if it is written with the last name first or what if I remember only the first name.

Please, add this search field at the beginning of each Pane Field (Genre, Name etc.) it will be really helpful at the Panes View.

Thanks in advance   :)

You could try drop panes.  They show a search box at each level that filters what's shown (unless there aren't enough items showing to warrant a search).

Drop Panes?

I searched the forum, couldn't find any info about Drop Panes.

How do I try them?

Drop Panes?

I searched the forum, couldn't find any info about Drop Panes.

If MC were a building, it would have hundreds of small rooms that almost no one who lives there has ever seen.  Matt has seen all the rooms, but even he has forgotten about some of them!  :)

Drop Panes are on option in any Panes based View:
Customize View > Settings > View details > Panes > Dropdown

I don't think they are what the OP wants though.  He's asked for this feature before, and didn't like other alternatives that were offered.  I think he wants exactly what he's asked for and nothing else (that MC can currently do).  <shrug>

Thanks for the info.  I had to try them, and the left and right panes too....  I don't like change, I stayed with the top panes.

Thank you Matt!

This is my current set up, in combination with the "DJ Panel" view, when playing live.

Unfortunately in this way we can't ctrl+choose more than one data from each field/pane.

So, it could be nice if you could add the search field at the standard panes.

Thanks everybody for helping!

^ I think you meant to attach a picture or two... they aren't showing up.  I'd like to see them.  :)

I didn't have that in mind, but that's easy

Here they are...
the first one is my current setup
and the second one is the setup I would rather have,

if of course I could have search capability for each pane field (not only the two I point with the red arrows).

Interesting layout.

Are you the guy that does Tango DJing?  "Tandas" if I remember correctly (the groups of songs).  Interesting gig if so.  :)

Yes, you are right Blgentry. You have  a great memory! I would have forgotten such word the very next moment I had heard it  :)

There is also a certain depth that the playlist folders and playlists (you can't see this at the above screens) reach which helps me in a different way, while playing live.

The unfortunate thing is that the information I manage has grown huge. MC is the only software which could help me manage this kind of information.

The small things I ask for help manage this kind of data faster and more conveniently.

and they are mostly search capabilities. One is in pane fields that discards the words that don't much to the query and the other is for playlist folders area which would also discard the names that don't much the query leaving those that much with their children folders and playlists and song structure intact.
