I am not aware of JRemote' roadmap (in particular for iOS), but a feature I have been missing is for JRemote to sync the database with metadata to the phone so one can browse JRemote even when not connected to MC on LAN. I like to check my music for what I have with buying/streaming elsewhere.

I think that would be a really helpful and useful feature.

That and 'skip ahead' on video playback (for commercials). Unfortunately it appears to be in maintenance mode unless priorities have changed: https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,105542.msg741402.html#msg741402
Best options I can recommend for offline usage would be:
Use MCiTunesSyncronizer to sync your music to iTunes and use Apple's ecosystem.
Use Plex (or similar) in parallel.
I do a combination of both currently.
Media Center is my system of record, tool for maintenance of, and playback path for critical use. The other solutions fill gaps for distribution and offline use of content.

I agree. That would be a useful feature.
