Title: POLL: Would you pay $20 to see JRiver Win on Kickstarter?
Post by: JimH on November 12, 2015, 04:57:35 am
We're about to launch a Kickstarter Campaign to add Copy Once capabilities (http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=101223.0) to JRiver Media Center.  We need your support.  Please let us know where you stand.

Thank you!

You need another choice:

* I don't have cable (I use antenna and internet streaming)

Can you explain what this would mean, practically? I don't have cable. Is it for people like me who only do streaming?

You could read about it here:

If you don't have cable, it won't make any difference for you.

I don't need what the Kickstarter project is specifically for (I am in the UK) - but I may be willing to help fund it if it means you spend more resources on the TV recording functionality generally on top of the Playready stuff

We're already doing a lot with it.  If you have something you need, please post on the TV board.

I know you are, and I really appreciate it, but I just wanted to let you know I am willing to throw money at you if it helps push things forward! :)

I love JRiver but have zero interest in television apart from when some series go to disc.

I've never had paid TV and where I live there is no OTA reception.

No thanks.  Rather see you focus on existing products that tend to get lost like JRemote!!

Yes, definitely.
I am a WMC user looking for a GOOD replacement for WMC....with DRM support. All my channels are encrypted.
I am contributed fairly high to the SiliconDust DVR project and hope something will become of that.
But what I'm not liking about their solution is that they are going essentially be a pluggin to someone else's "media center" such as Plex.
I like the idea of the all-in-one integrated developed/maintained by one company product such as your MC.
So I am looking forward to your KS project and wish you well in your development effort.
Jerry

I use to think I wanted cable card and copy once support but having gone this long without it and my viewing habits changing I no longer care about it. I got rid of cable tv/sat over a year ago and have no desire to go back to it. The only live tv I use is OTA and that is only a few times a week during football season. Other than that it's just music, movies and tv shows from bluray or dvd I've ripped.

I would much rather prefer better online content integration like netflix, youtube and the like. That I would likely use and be willing to help fund development on.

I'll contribute, if only because I love JRiver enough to see you succeed at ANYTHING, whether I need it or not (funds allowing, of course). I might find a use for it, considering that I've just bought an IR emitter for my Xbox One so that it can interact with my Xfinity box. It's nice, but I'd be willing to experiment with JRiver if there is a more comprehensive feature set that I'm missing.

I suppose I'm asking that question right now.

The other question I'm asking is: if this campaign pans out, can we reasonably expect future campaigns for other initiatives? Like, say, more streaming service integration (Amazon Instant Video, Crunchyroll, Hulu Plus, Netflix, &c.)? I'll be honest and say that much of my streaming activity is centralised to my Xbox One, but only because MC has had difficulties integrating with the aforementioned services due to licensing restrictions and fees.

Thanks.  What we will do in the future is hard to predict.  If this campaign is successful, we might do another.

Streaming is a rat's nest.  For whatever reason, Netflix withdrew the api support that we used.
