Title: Network based JRiver Library and Windows 10
Post by: media-mogul on November 14, 2015, 08:02:31 am
Hi,
I'm running Media Center 20 and have recently upgraded from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10. My library is based on a FreeNAS box and mounted via CIFS. Since the upgrade I've been finding that playback keeps pausing when previously everything was fine.

Does anyone have any ideas of what I can to isolate the cause and fix it? Are there any JRiver settings which can mitigate this?

Regards,
David

I'm no expert, but it looks like Microsoft made a few changes to security, specifically Guest access (https://techjourney.net/cannot-connect-to-cifs-smb-samba-network-shares-shared-folders-in-windows-10/), and maybe network protocols supported with Windows 10.

Windows 8.1 was up to SMB3.02 (no longer called CIFS, which is an older standard).
It seems like someone else is having similar trouble with FreeNAS: https://forums.freenas.org/index.php?threads/cifs-share-constantly-disconnecting-in-windows-10.38953/

Maybe FreeNAS needs some adjustment or fix to work with Windows 10?

FWIW I have several (self-administered) SMB/CIFS shares working perfectly with windows 10 for several months now;  so if there's an issue it's probably with FreeNAS's implementation, not the protocol itself and windows 10.
