Is there a guide for playing video on Gizmo? Right now Gizmo displays "preparing" when I select a video, but that message disappears and nothing further happens. Images and audio play fine (both in my LAN and from outside my network). I've tried all the quality settings for playing on the handheld. My videos are mostly home videos (some high quality... 720 & 1090 from my good camera... and some low quality mpgs). Not sure which option to choose under "video conversion" in MC. Please advise if you can.
Thanks

Latest Gizmo and latest MC? MC will be updated to 21.0.22 in a few hours.
-
MC 21.0.19
Gizmo 20.0.34
-
Firewall or antivirus?
-
Nothing other than the standard Windows 10 stuff. Audio and images play fine (either on my LAN or outside connection). I can see all the videos and thumbnails on my android.... the just won't play. I don't get an error.... just the "preparing" note... and then screen returns to list of videos & thumbnails.

Watch the CPU usage on the server. Video conversion will keep it busy. A slow machine? What's the JRmark?
-
JRMark is 2186 (Math 1016, Image 2564, DB 2976).
When I touch the video to play on handheld, PC CPU shoots to 98%... slowly reduces to 0%. "Playing now" on handheld displays the selected video (still frame)..... says "stopped", with a "resume Playback" button. Resume playback again sends PC CPU back up to 98%.... handheld says video stopped... CPU back to 0%. This all happens in about 15 seconds.

Maybe your video transcoding settings for DLNA are set up in a strange way. Take a look at:
Tools > Options > Media Network > Add or configure DLNA servers > (select your server profile) then
Video > Mode
Video > Format
Mine has mode set to "specified output format only when necessary". My CPU shoots way up when I start a movie (in Gizmo), but it settles down after 15 to 60 seconds.

DLNA video settings do not apply to Gizmo playback at all. There are no settings in MC that affect the conversion for videos for remotes like Gizmo or JRemote.
What kind of Android device are you using?
-
Device is a Nexus 5, OS is Android 6
-
You're out on the edge with that. But I think Matt also has one.
-
I have one as well, but I haven't used Gizmo on it for a while (I mostly use that on my tablet), I'll see if it maybe needs some fixes for Android 6
-
But I think Matt also has one.
Android 5.1.1 is the newest they've sent to my phone.

OK, so for what it's worth, I have another phone that has Android 4.2 and Gizmo plays my videos just fine on it (at least on my LAN). I suppose I should put my sim card in the 4.2 phone and see if it will play outside my network.... I bet it will.
So it appears the problem is either with the Nexus 5 device, or Android 6. Can anyone confirm video playback on Gizmo with Android 6.... or 5 for that matter. I suppose I could roll my phone back to 5... although I'd rather not mess around with rooting and all that.
I really like the potential of having one app that gives my phone access to audio, images and video from my home server (with some flexibility to organize and search). Messing around with uploading to Google music for audio, and some other cloud service (Onedrive, Tonido, etc) for images and video hasn't worked.
Thanks in advance.

It may just be the specific default video player from Android 6. But I think Hendrik may take a look at it.

It works fine here on Android 5 FWIW. Jim's right, it's probably an android 6 quirk.

I've released a new version of Gizmo that should address this.
You can get it from here:

Or from the Play Store in a few hours.

NICE!!! .... and Thanks!
Videos playing just fine now with Android Marshmellow....

I have the same problem with 2 Android devices (Samsung S4 and Dell Venue tablet), both running Android 5.1 Lollypop. They both show Preparing and then back to the Gizmo menu, so it sounds like it may be MC with current versions of Android
