Title: Audio reported incorrectly on new Rush - A Farewell To Kings Blu-Ray
Post by: jctcom on November 24, 2015, 01:25:53 am
Just received my new Rush - A Farewell To Kings Blu-Ray Audio disc today.

Played it in MC 21 and noticed that the DSP icon was blue so decided to check and see what it says.

To my surprise it reports 192KHz / 16 Bit / 8 Channel with no changes.

Here is a screen shot:

My receiver however reports correctly that it is 5.1 channels @ 96KHz  (Does not give me the bitdepth but I suspect it is probably 24 as it is supposed to be.)

Is this maybe because I am playing straight from the disc?  (With AnyDVDHD)?

Carl.

Even after ripping it to BDMV (Using MC 21) DSP still shows as 192KHz / 8 Ch. / 16 Bit? (Playing the ripped BDMV files of course).

Just check a all my TrueHD 6 CH 24 Bit 96kHz and they all report fine to me.  Does it report differently if you turn off Bitstreaming?

Haven't tried turning off bitstreaming yet.  But it shows the same thing whether I am playing the DTS-HD 5.1, TrueHD 5.1, AC3 5.1 or PCM Stereo track.

I'll take a wild stab in the dark then it is that you are bitstreaming and hence MC really does not know what is in the stream during playback.  What do you see:
- Right Click --> Streams Menu (like my pic)
- in the "Compression" "Channels" "Bit Depth" "Sample Rate" fields

Actually the streams menus seems to be showing everything correctly as far as I can tell.

Same as what I see.  I'm a "decoder" not a "bitstreamer" so I'm still betting that is the difference.  MC uses it's filters to generate the Library Fields and also the menu so they will be correct.

Give decoding a go.  If you are going to get into Video you get (among other things) "Video Clock" to keep the video and audio in sync preventing dropped/added video frames.

Yeah.  I prefer to have my receiver (Onkyo) do the decoding.  That way I can set it so it plays the HD Audio stuff (DTS-HD, True HD, etc in various surround formats) straight through without any changes.  I have it turn the stereo stuff into a matrix surround using the built int Neo Audyssey DSX which sounds pretty good to my ears.

No need to create a bunch of rules.  Plus the receiver has the built in Optimizer for the speakers etc... which I don't think would work if JRiver were doing the decoding.

My Yami still does it's speaker correction stuff regardless of it it gets a bitstream or LPCM but you do lose the lights on the AVR saying what the source codec is.  Anyway each to their own on this one.

One good thing is that I've found that my Chapterfy script does not handle the authoring of this disk to correctly break it by track so it gives me an excuse to update it this weekend!

Well.  I was just wondering about that.  I thought it was just my ignorance in using the Chapterfy add-on.  lol

Please let me know when you have updated it so I can try it again.

(btw you are talking about the Rush - A farewell To Kings Blu-ray right?)

I've added the details to ChatperDB so Chapterfy and MCUtils will now pull the details correctly

FYI - the bit that does not work with this disk in Chapterfy is my parser that reads the chapter times if it is not in the ChapterDB database (and MCUtils will not work as it relies on Media Info that can not read chapter info from Multi M2TS authored disks at all)

...and here is what it now looks like when ripped, added meta data, coverart and chaptery'ed

Cool.

So I need to wait for an update to the Chapterfy before I can get this to work right?  I tried creating my own Chapterfy file but it doesn't seem to have affected the display of the album or show the tracks?

Nope - Chapterfy will now work just fine (as the meta data is available)
