Title: From Windows to Mac
Post by: dac0964 on November 29, 2015, 02:11:27 pm
Hi,

Been using JRiver for Windows (although stuck in version 19).  I might be getting a Mac pretty soon so I'd like to know what my options are:

1.  Do I buy a full license for the Mac?
2.  Do I pay just the differential to version 21 and Mac version?
3.  When I do, what will happen to my Windows MC, do I just erase/delete the application?

Thanks for any feedback.

Dan

1. Yes - however if you do plan to keep using Windows, then I'd suggest a Master license which can be used on Windows + Mac + Linux. However if you're only going to be using the Mac, I'd suggest a Mac license (it'll only work on the Mac).
2. Just purchase a MC 21 Mac (or Master if you need it) license.
3. That's up to you to decide, if you're going to keep using Windows alongside the Mac with MC then keep it. Again, if you choose to purchase a Master license and keep using MC on Windows, you can upgrade it to MC 21.

I'm not actually sure how it works. But, I just tested it with my old v19 Windows license, and I think your best bet is to get the Master License.

The price for a full copy on Mac is $49.98.

The upgrade from any previous Mac license to v21 is $26.98. But, I couldn't get this upgrade to work with my old Windows license. I think you need a previous Mac license, which you don't have, so you can't do that. Perhaps someone from JRiver could fix this for you if you really wanted to, but...

The upgrade from any previous Mac or Windows license to the v21 Master license is $29.98. This will work with your old v19 Windows license. And, you get one that works on any platform (and it is only a few bucks more).

So, $29.98 is less than $49.98. That seems the way to go for switchers. All the links to do the purchases are in Jim's post here:
