Title: Auto Size Columns issues
Post by: mark_h on December 04, 2015, 03:11:00 am
I have 'Auto Size Columns' checked, but quite often when I look at a view/filelist the columns are not correctly sized:

And then if I hit refresh, I get correctly sized columns:

I see the same in views and file lists.

Is this expected behaviour?  Any way to get it to work without having to refresh views/filelists, eg each time the data in a view changes, shouldn't the auto-size columns automatically refresh?

The auto size runs one time when it fills the list.

If data changes, that won't trigger another auto size.

Matt, that's what I suspected.  But it means the auto-size isn't that useful a feature...  the data is constantly changing, but the columns are fixed to the size of the last refresh.

Any scope to improve this behaviour?  Just feels broken right now...

Personally I think it would be rather disruptive if it re-sized the columns immediately after editing their content.

Well.... it is called auto-size columns... if you edit an entry, why not auto-resize?

The edit case is an exception to the norm, which is browsing, and it's far more disruptive to have truncated columns or excessively whitespaced columns while browsing IMO.

For editing you could allow edits not to auto-resize, but the next time the view is displayed, after navigating away and then back, it would be resized.

Never said there was an easy solution ;)
