Title: How to bring back "Decade" in Media Library
Post by: MrVegas on September 02, 2003, 06:22:39 pm
A few versions back there was a category under Audio which sorted albums by the decade they were from.  Can anybody tell me how I can re-create this?  I know there must be a way to add custom categories but I'm not sure how to do it.

1) Create a new playlist group under playlists and call it Decade
2) Create a smartlist for each decade under this Decade playlist group with the following search:
[Media Type]=[Audio] [Date (year)]=STARTYEAR-ENDYEAR
Example: 1960's: [Media Type]=[Audio] [Date (year)]=1960-1969
3) Repeat step 2 as needed for all the decades you need

You can use this playlist group as a field in the tree/pane/...

Another alternative is to add a Date (year) column to a pane, then Right-Click on the column header, select Colum Properties..., and set the grouping to 10.

This will give you:
1960-1969
1970-1979
...

I used to do it this way but this relies on all my tracks having a year tagged on them.  Some don't as I'm not sure exactly what year they were released in though I do know which decade I would want them listed in (e.g. if I buy a best of the 80s CD but don't know the year for all the tracks).

For this reason I created a separate tag for decade.
