Title: I Am On A Quest (Neat, Neat)
Post by: KingSparta on September 01, 2003, 08:12:07 am
Well a user stated a few weeks ago that they would like to see something to find "Tabs" info that would allow them to play a guitar with the music they listen to on MC9.

so do you play a guitar?

do you know of any sites that support Guitar tabs?

if so please list them below.

I play guitar about as well as I can eat chinese food with chopsticks, but..

Here:
http://www.olga.net/

I tried a few items on olga.net.  had mixed results.  for example, entering
i me mine
and hitting enter (search) brought up no results.  Hello? It's a beatles tune, for cryin'.
hammer to fall   got nothing either (queen!)
The fact that it failed to find "breathing" by kate bush is a little easier to understand.

http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/
also couldn't find 'i me mine'.  what, did i dream this song?  Finally i broke down and entered 'beatles' and of course got a big ol' list, pages long.  Lo and behold:  "i me mine" isn't even on the list!  I guess no one ever uploaded a tab transcription.  ah well.

http://www.guitaretab.com/
well, they spelled guitar funny.  or maybe that's supposed to be "guitar eTab" like "eMail".

http://www.guitartabs.net/
this looked promising, but every single link I used created this "enter this contest!" popup.  drove me freakin' crazy.  Also seemed to have the same search results as the others.
(I think they're all using the same database!  That's what I think!)

http://www.tabrobot.com/
Success!   'i me mine' turned up not one, but over five hits from this source!   However, I did have to do a fair bit of clicking-through to get to one. (and they're not always tablature: sometimes are just written chords with the lyrics.  but better than nothing!)

I'm not sure how you plan to make this work, Sparta, but these might be places to start.

Cheers,

Nore Do I

But if not anything it may bring you and others links to try.

I am still thinking about "Genre Master" been thinking about that for 2 months.

Ha!  The old "genre" can 'o worms.

My main problem is that I think of both Glenn Miller's "In The Mood"  and  Nine Inch Nails' "Closer" as...

(all together now...)

'POP'

I'm still thinking along the lines of whitelist-style playlists (like "housework" for energetic pop, or "i wanna think" for non-intrusive chilldown background music.. or..)

But those lists of "genres" drive me batty.
(Post-Alternative-Americana?   --> POP!)

The best ASCII tab site is http://www.mxtab.net but the best tab is power tab which includes a midi file.  This is available from http://www.power-tab.net

Post-Alternative-Americana?   --> POP!)

-=-=-=-
You go fast my friend!!!

First ,what it means?

Post- americana?
Alternative americana?
Alternative post-americana ?
or Americana post-alternative?

This genres ARE NOT the same.. as you know, even if i cannot see a way to name an album .......

And ,did you heard about the last craze in town : alternative pop post-americana ?

I do not use genre because i know about the music i listen to and i do not need it.
If i got music i do not know ,in this case i may use the most generic genre name to find it fast:
World ,experimental , new age , industrial.

Look like many spend more time to put genre on they music than listening to it.....

Well if I do such tagging tasks I do them while listening.
Someday I may get genre and mood filled in  :-/
lots of work to do though before getting there. It could be nice though in quickly choosing a playlist, say for a romantic evening, or a formal dinner.

Not sure that this is useful, but a buddy of mine created an XML/XSLT system for
a) marking up lyrics with chord information and other structural marks
b) rendering it in HTML (with chord names properly placed above lyrics)
c) rendering graphics to represent the fingerings for chords.

Here's a Stevie Wonder song (click a blue chord to see the graphics):
