Title: MC 21 Mac skins have minimize and close buttons on the wrong Windows right side
Post by: Domi62 on December 09, 2015, 06:37:15 am
While trying to make MC look as much as a Mac app as possible, I hit upon the PixOS skin, which makes it look a bit like iTunes.
It however moves the window re-sizing/close buttons to the Windows position (upper right corner) as opposed to the Mac position (upper left corner). Does anyone know of a skin that is truly Mac-like?
Many thanks!

If you can find it, there's a ModernCards Mac skin.

I've tried a BUNCH of skins.  The most Mac-like (to me) were:

Fusion X3 (http://maverick07x.deviantart.com/art/JRiver-FusionX3-278840579)
Fusion X4 (http://maverick07x.deviantart.com/art/JRiver-FusionX4-365712885)
Fusion X2 (http://maverick07x.deviantart.com/art/JRiver-FusionX2-189672324)

I personally don't use any of them, but maybe you'll like them.  There's a pretty big list of Skins here:

Plus quite a few more in the Skins forum:  http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?board=5.0

install on OSX:

Close JRiver

Right click on JRiver software in Applications Folder
Go to Show Package Contents
Open Contents
Go To Resources
Go to Skins

No, no, no... Please don't do that.  That's the old school way.  It works.  It won't hurt anything if you're very careful.  But it won't preserve skins between MC upgrades; they get wiped out.  Some of us lobbied pretty hard to get JRiver to externalize the Skins and resources and they did so many months ago.  Now Skins and things like Resource.xml are preserved across upgrades of MC, so you don't need to mess with them every time you upgrade.

The right place to put Skins is:

[Your User Directory]/Library/Application Support/J River/Media Center 21/Skins/Standard View

Custom resources go in:

[Your User Directory]/Library/Application Support/J River/Media Center 21/Data/Custom Resources

I've had poor luck with using Custom Resources from skins, so I generally don't use them at all.  But I haven't tried in a while.

How I can install this modernskin on 10.9.5 with last MC version installed. Please explain me step by step. What will happen with skin after upgrade to new MC version?

That the problem to create the same official skins by MC team? I really don't understand ...  :-\ All default skins are so horrible.

that is where it goes even on 10.9.5... with that your skin will always be there even you change JRiver to new version.

Close JRiver than Go to your Home folder (the little house) Open library
(if you cant see it there, Apple hide it, just click Alt button while in home folder and go in the finder menu "Go"
Library will be visible...

Right click on Finder in the dock, then select Go to Folder... and copy and paste the following in;

Code: [Select]
~/Library/Application Support/J River/Media Center 21
Here's a screenshot of my personal modified Modern Cards skin to better match OS X: http://i.imgur.com/1YuqTpV.png

Thanks a lot for suggesting the Modern Cards skins: they do display the close/resize buttons on the left side, where you expect to fid them on a Mac!

^ Oh interesting.  You know, until you said that I hadn't even noticed that my current favorite skin does that too!  ...and I'm pretty sure that Marko, the author, ONLY uses windows.  I still love his skin Black and Blue Too HC:

Maybe the authors just copied the window buttons from the Noire skin, or based theirs on that originally, would inherit the OS-dependent placement automatically then.
It does depend entirely on the skin. A Skin could place them in the middle of the Window if they wanted to for some crazy reason! ;)
