Title: computer crashes during ripping
Post by: MikeTFL on September 01, 2003, 08:52:13 pm
I am brand new on these boards and am not sure if I am in the right place.

I have been trying without success to rip my CDs into mp3.  I keep getting an error message stating that there is a problem with lame.exe.  I re-downloaded the plugin to no avail.  Either my computer locks up or completely crashes.  Can anyone offer advice?

Thank you

Let's have some more info Mike:

Tell us what version and build number you are using e.g. 9.0.180 from Help>About.

Also paste your system info into this thread - also from the help menu.

What options do you have set in the encoder settings (Tools>Options>Encoding).

The version I am using is 9.0.180.

My system info is as follows:

Media Center Registered 9.0.180 -- C:\Program Files\J River\Media Center\

Microsoft Windows XP  Workstation 5.1 Service Pack 1 (Build 2600)
AMD Athlon 1673 MHz MMX / Memory: Total - 261 MB, Free - 36 MB

Test mode: No /  Eject after writing: Yes /  Direct decoding: Yes /  Write CD-Text: No
Use playback settings: No /  Normalization: None

The options I have selected are:
    encoding for: CD ripping
    encoder: MP3 encoder   Quality: normal
    quality: 160
Also, normalizing is off; delete temp waves is on; and rip & encode simultaneously is on.

I was able tonight to finally get a complete rip from a CD in my collection.  The problem seems to occur on discs with more than 15 tracks.  The program will either freeze up or completely re-boot the computer.  Any help you can provide will be greatly appreciated.
