When I set Bitstreaming: DSD, cannot playback DFF, DSF files successfully but if I set Bitstreaming: None, can playback those 2 types of format. Is that normal?
-
Welcome to the forum. If you use bitstreaming, the receiving device must support all formats that you send it.
-
Directstream can decode DFF, DSF in Win PC, do you suggest their driver for Mac is not supporting DFF and DSF?
-
Yes. Bitstreaming just gives the file to the DAC to decode.
It apparently doesn't work with the files you're sending. Please contact the manufacturer. Let them know we will provide software if they want to test. They could contact matt at jriver.

Managed to have MC 21 and DS to playback DFF format. DS screen shows Input DOP Rate: DSD128 1 Bit but with high noise, tried few files with same result.
From my MC 21 Mac version, my setting is:
Audio Device "PS Audio USB Audio 2.0 Output"
Bitsteaming: DSD
Output Encoding: None
Where I need further adjustment? Thank you

DSD128 is 2xDSD. What happens when you try to play a regular rate DSD file? (AKA DSD64)
Brian.

Tried DSD 64 and ISO file, with high volume of noise

Try the "safe" audio settings. These are just what I personally recommend as a starting point:
1. Tools > Options > Audio > Audio Device > (CHoose your device. Do not use Default. Choose it by name)
2. Tools > Options > Audio > Audio Device > Device Settings
Device >
Exclusive Access > (uncheck)
Integer Mode (uncheck)
Channel offset: 0
Buffering >
Software: 250 mS
Hardware: Hardware Default
That should be a good baseline to start from. Can you play regular (non-DSD) files with normal sound quality?
Brian.

Brian, problem solved. It is caused by OS loading issue of my DAC. Reload OS and solved. Thank you for help!
-
OS? Please tell me you didn't have to re-install Mac OSX to get this to work. :)
Brian.

Just downgraded OS firmware of the DAC, and then upgraded it again, done within few minutes

Greetings folks,
Newbie here.
I'm experiencing the same issue playing DSD/DSF files on my MacBookPro laptop running El Capitan, with the PS Audio Direct Stream (DS) DAC.
I've followed the steps in the JRiver 21 Mac instructions/tutorials, but when I playback a DSF file I get fizzles. The display on the DS shows that it's playing a DSD64 file using DoP but only fizzles and crackling can be heard. If I stop playing the DSF file and play a ALAC file, it sounds great. The DS panel then shows its playing PCM (as expected).
However, if I quit JRiver 21 and fire up Audirvana+ on the same Mac MBP laptop (without rebooting) then there are no problems. Audirvana picks-up the DS DAC and I can play the DSF file beautifully. The DS panel shows its playing DSD64.
What am I missing in the JRiver config?
Thx.
