Title: Theater View and Red October HQ--both non available due to same issue
Post by: Stereojeff on December 21, 2015, 11:17:19 am
In MC21, on my Windows 7 machine, Theater View and Red October HQ are suddenly not available.  Theater view's message is;  Error Starting Direct 3D Engine (error creating Direct 3D Device (0x8876086C)).

Attempts to play .MKV using Red October HQ fails and returns this message, "Mad VR Reports Creating Direct 3D Device failed 8876086c"

Reinstalling MC21 does not solve the issue.

I did find an earlier report of the Theater View problem but clicking on the included link to directly install the missing Direct 3D code also failed.

I had a problem/error related to Direct3d when I installed MC on a new/fresh computer because the DirectX package that installs with MC failed to install. I just had to reinstall the MC program again. You should check your DirectX package to see if it has any errors. Type "DXDiag.exe" in the Windows "Run" box. Then go to "Display" and see if "Direct3D" is enabled.

If nothing above helps, try a fresh/new video card driver. I've read about some problems like your on systems with NVidia cards (usually when the owner lets Windows install the driver). If you have an NVidia card, go to their website and download their driver.

Intel says drivers are up to date.  Followed your suggestion but Direct 3D is installed.  Any other ideas?

What version of MC are you using?  Please try the one from the Download Page here.

There are a bunch of threads with this topic if you use the Search feature. This one http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=81696.0
suggests the problem was solved when User loaded the "Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator Driver for Windows".

Did MC ever work for you, or is this a new computer/OS or first time installation of MC?

I'm using 21.  I had no issues with 19 or 20 and even 21 worked perfectly until last week.

I've tried most of the suggestions revealed by the "search function" to no avail.

I updated the Intel 4600 driver, also, but still no joy.

I read about a similar issue on the madVR forum. It was suggested to Op that he try and load/reload DirectX package from here https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/download/details.aspx?id=35&e6b34bbe-475b-1abd-2c51-b5034bcdd6d2=True

I was able to reload Direct X per CountryBumkin's suggestions.  The problem remains unchanged.  I still cannot access Theater View.

Then the problem is probably related to madVR's use of your video driver.  The version of madVR that MC uses was changed recently.  You could read the notes for the builds.  MC21.0.30 is posted near the top of this board.

JimH:

I restored the PC to 12/9/15.  Problem is now solved.  I will verify MC installed version and report back.

I rolled back to 21.0.23 and Theater View is working properly.  If I learn anything more I'll post here.

Again, it's probably something specific to the version of madVR, and how it uses the video driver.  It may trigger a bug in the video driver.

To close the loop, I updated to 21.0.30 this morning and everything is working properly.

Doesn't even start in standard view...I get a blank screen under display (pop up telling me my drive is full... and it isn't... >:( ?

Can't watch my hockey game and if i restart it will crew up my recording .... >:( >:(
