Title: Want NON tv shows to go to "Home Movies" - can't figure it out
Post by: tzr916 on December 24, 2015, 08:55:29 am
MC seems to think every video that I import or add is a TV Show, unless it is a full 2 hour movie with get from internet info. So if I have a few mp4 home movies, they don't get put into Home Movies. They get put in with TV Shows. What's the secret to get the non TV shows to be in the Home Movies area? And can I make other video categories then tell other videos to go there too?

I am a beginner at MC. I know what tags are for mp3 music, but not at all for video.
How would my home movies have tags that look like tv shows tags?
How do I view the tags in a video?
Do I need to change the tags in my home movie files? How would I do that?
Can't MC be setup to differentiate with the existing tags?

Open the Tagging Window in the left with Edit > Tag .  Now click on any video and you'll see it's tags in the Tagging Window.  The tag you are looking for is Media SubType.  You might have to adjust the tagging window to show more tags by clicking on the gear icon in the upper left corner of the Tagging Window.

Set Media SubType to be Home Video and it should move those over to a view that shows home videos.

You can set up MC's auto import feature so that it applies certain tags to certain directories.  Tools > Import > configure auto import .  Edit or add a directory and notice that it has a tags to apply area down below.  If you always put Home Videos in a certain directory, add that directory and configure it to apply the Media SubType tag of Home Video.

Good luck.

Thank you so much. That does work.

I'm just wondering how all my home movies got Media SubType set to TV Show to begin with?

Is that something MC does at time of import/add when no Media SubType value exists?

If so, can I change that MC behavior? How?

Yes, MC does that as a "guess" for videos that are under a certain length.

Read what I wrote about applying tags using Auto Import.  That's where you can tell it to apply certain tags (like Media SubType) when it imports from certain folders (like the place where you put your home videos).
