Title: Id- Specific Questions
Post by: Cary on January 05, 2016, 06:30:02 pm
Hi,

I am looking at purchasing a JRiver Id with a 1tb hard drive to steam music
to my main audio system.  I currently use JRiver on my desktop with
JRemote, but want to move away from having to have the computer on, load
airfoil and then JRiver to listen to music in my main system.  I believe
that the Id will do everything I want but want to confirm.  My questions
are:

1)  Can I leave the Id on at all times once setup?
2)  Can the Id be used as a DNLA server so I can play music in other
rooms on either 1) another computer, or 2) through a Roku (which JRiver
will currently play through from my computer)?
3)  Can the Id work simultaneously as a renderer and server?

Thank you and sorry for the seemingly stupid questions, but the entire
server/renderer/streamer thing is a bit overwhelming to me.

Hi, Cary.  Glad you made it over here from the CA forum.  (I'm "Old Listener" there.) I don't have experience with the Id so I'll be reading the replies along with you.

More general questions that you might want answers for:

- What features in the Windows version of MC are missing in the Id?

- How about ripping?  Can you connect a DVD or Blu-Ray drive ad rip CDs on the Id?

- What involved in setting up the Id when I first use it?  Do I need to connect a keyboard, mouse and monitor to the Id to set it up?  Where do I find some documentation of the setup process?

- How different is the user interface from the Windows version?

I just answered your email, but there is a lot written about the Id on our site.  You could start here and read the links:

Jim,

Thank you for the response.

Old Listener. Here is what I have found in response to your questions so far:

More general questions that you might want answers for:

- What features in the Windows version of MC are missing in the Id?

I am not sure on this, as my use is pretty basic.

- How about ripping?  Can you connect a DVD or Blu-Ray drive ad rip CDs on the Id?

Unsure, I have a desktop for that.

- What involved in setting up the Id when I first use it?  Do I need to connect a keyboard, mouse and monitor to the Id to set it up?  Where do I find some documentation of the setup process?

It requires a monitor and keyboard for initial setup and then runs "headless" after that.

- How different is the user interface from the Windows version?

My understanding is it is very different.  The interface is much more basic with most of the control being done from the controller.
