Hi all,
I have found that my two favourite headphone-related DSPs break gapless playback on JRiver MC21 (but not on foobar2000). A click (not very loud but very easy to hear for me at least) happens at exactly the same point every time, and by playing with the pre-buffering setting I can push it one way or the other. The pop seems to happens exactly when the pre-buffering should be kicking in (if I understand this correctly anyway :D ). For example on a 4:26 track I hear the click at 4:20 every single time.
I tried playing with the various buffers (as well as the various gapped/gapless settings) and it makes absolutely no difference. Turning off those specific DSPs instantly makes playback flawless again. Happens on two completely different PCs with different hardware and a different OS (Win 7 64 with a Xonar u7 vs Win 10 64 and a Fiio K1). Output mode (DS, WASAPI, ASIO) also makes no difference.
Not exactly sure when this started happening but it is important to note that I can't reproduce those issues on foobar2000 using the same settings and the exact same DSPs. And I definitely had no such issue in the past with older JRiver versions (heck, I know for a fact the issue doesn't occur in MC20 which I have on my work machine). I haven't been doing much "critical" listening lately which is why I can't say exactly when it started but it must be pretty recent as I'm very sensitive to this type of issue.
The two plugins I'm talking about come from this site : http://www.toneboosters.com/ TB Isone (latest version, 3.1.3 with a valid licence) and TB Isone Surround (free but hasn't been updated for a while, 2.9.1)
I use one or the other depending on the content (of course not both at the same time :p ) and I absolutely can't live without them anymore.
Any ideas?
*I have version 21.0.30 right now. I could update it but judging by the changelog I doubt it will make any difference.

The bug was introduced in build 25 or 26: http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=102013.msg709154#msg709154
Build 24 should work until they fix it: http://files.jriver.com/mediacenter/channels/v21/latest/MediaCenter210024.exe
Please report back to confirm whether build 24 works for you.

YES! Thanks a lot man this works perfectly, just like it used to.
-
I'm not sure I'm testing the right thing, but I have "TB_Isone_v3" installed and enabled and gapless is working perfectly.
Any tips? Thanks.

Well, when Isone is enabled I get a little "pop" sound when the pre-buffering kicks in during playback, just like I said. When I listen to something where gapless makes a huge difference (for example most Pink Floyd albums) it is pretty easy to notice although depending on the track and volume (and the equipment used) it might be more or less noticeable. Also worth mentioning that it is usually the ONLY DSP enabled on my setup. This does not happen with MC versions 21.0.24 and older, as RD James pointed out.
If it does not happen for you, that's very curious. My two machines on which I can reproduce it are very different (powerful desktop gaming rig with Win 7x64 and a Xonar U7 vs a Surface 3 with Win 10x64 and a FiiO K1). And in the original thread ( http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=102013.msg709154#msg709154 ) there's plenty of different users reporting the same thing (and with a different DSP as well).

And does the problem happen with 21.0.25?
It has almost no changes, so it's really a riddle for 21.0.24 not to do it but 21.0.25 to do it.

I don't have a download link for version .25 ( http://files.jriver.com/mediacenter/channels/v21/latest/MediaCenter210025.exe doesn't work) but I could try it if you handed me one :)
-
I sent you a private message with a download link.
-
OK thanks for the link. So .25 is indeed glitch-free like .24
-
And build .26 glitches?
I just want to be sure I've got the build transition right (so please double-check).
Thanks.

I've got an idea for something to try. It'll be in build 21.0.35. Please test once it's available.
I'm not putting anything in history because I'm really not sure if it'll do anything.
Thanks.

I sent you a JRPlayer.dll to try by private message. Please install the latest build and then overwrite the copy of JRPlayer you have with that one.
Really hoping it's fixed!
-
Thanks I will try that. And I can confirm that the glitch happens starting with .26 - I checked 2 minutes ago.
edit : I just tried .34 with the custom .dll you sent me and it's working perfectly!

Thanks for testing so quickly.
I think that means we can put this one to bed.
Thanks for the help.

Just to be sure, build 21.0.35 that's live now doesn't glitch does it?
-
Seems to be fixed for me now.

Works fine here too!

And also here!
Now it's the Mac turn…
