Title: Edit tags using the client
Post by: stanzani on January 18, 2016, 08:36:17 am
Something unclear to me: what about if I edit tags form a client connected to a remote libraty? does these tags get propagated in the remote files or stays in the local JRiver library? what happens under the hood?

If you are connecting as an "authenticated" (password etc) client to an instance of Media Server - yes - your changes can be synced back to the server.

yes exactly like VP said. as long as you use the authentication option

Basically the library loaded on the "client" machine is loading a virtual copy of the "server" machine's library. You are not writing to the actual library until the sync happens (plz, don't ask the obvious question as to what provokes the sync , I've asked it a lot -- Ithink its just magic   ;D ). You can force the sync to happen manually; You can also turn off the automatic sync.

thanks much
I connect with the remote libray with a client but I am not asked for credentials
just curious why?
next question: can access in read only mode (so people or myself do not change the tags by mistake or even worse delete music files)?

You must enable Authentication in Tools > Options > Media Network on the Server. Then the clients will prompt on first connect.
