Title: Over Scan / Zoom video permanent setting?
Post by: tzr916 on January 20, 2016, 09:41:39 am
Comcast is going mpeg4. One of the flaws I have noticed is one or two lines in the video along the top edge have a bad "mirror" effect. happens on live tv and recorded shows. It happens when playing in all software, so it's not a MC specific issue.

Open full screen and look carefully at the line(s) along the top edge:

I know there is a MC keyboard shortcut to ZOOM (not very easy to do with remote). So is there any way to just permanently zoom all video so that the top line is always hidden? I have tried Options > Video > Crop Edges > checking both boxes, setting to 5% but nothing happens at all.

Television has a separate Crop Edges setting.

Tools > Options > Television > Display > Crop Edges to remove visual noise at edges of some broadcasts

Playing back recorded show in fullscreen theater view, I don't see any difference enabled vs disabled. The lines at the top are still there. It does not appear that the "Crop Edges" option does anything at all  :'(

Also tried Keyboard Hot Key for Zoom according to Wiki: CTRL + I and CTRL +O, and they do nothing at all (fullscreen theater view)  ?

Please please help. The lines at the top are incredibly distracting to the point of ruining watching the show.

I am not aware of CTRL+O and CTRL+I hot keys.  Maybe the wiki is outdated.  You can use "+" key to zoom in and "-" key to zoom out (on num pad).

Ya, outdated wiki strikes again.

+ and - does work. All it takes to get rid of the bad lines at the top is one press on the + key (zoom 101%).

Would be really great if you could make this a permanent setting in the Tools Options section  ;D

Ya, outdated wiki strikes again.

I went to look at the wiki.  The top of the page says "Outdated: this content is outdated currently...".

Regarding CTRL+I, the wiki actually says:

CTRL++
I

I take it to mean either CTRL++ OR just i (without pressing CTRL).  It turns out, "i" for zoom in, "o" for zoom out.  CTRL++ is wrong as it is for Volume up, and you already know, it is simply "+" without CTRL.

The entry for zoom should be:

"+" (num pad) or "=" or "i" for zoom in
"-" (num pad or main area) or "o" for zoom out.

I am a bit puzzled here.  "Crop Edges" option should be equivalent to "zoom in a bit".

Puzzled too. Tools > Options > Television > Display > Crop Edges has no effect at all here (v21.0.37).

Someone has been adding those "outdated" tags a little too freely, in my opinion.  The wiki serves people with many versions of MC, not just the latest, and if most of the information is fine, the "outdated" tag is mis-leading.  I would ignore them.
