Title: moving library, thanks MC!
Post by: ferday on January 31, 2016, 11:40:25 am
just swapped over to an 8Tb internal as i overran my 4...it's the first time i've moved the entire library since i started with MC years ago.  the transition was very smooth (thanks MC, and the brilliant RMC find/replace tool) and super easy.

but wait, a reminder!  forgot to exclude the entire new drive from all antivirus related stuff, and MC was running poorly, crashing and delayed.  Excluded everything (from everything ha ha) and now it's back to normal awesome MC

Is that drive a Seagate SMR ?  (Shingled recording)

Keep us posted on how you like it for AV media.
Haven't got one yet, but I thought I could live with the write speed for cold storage of movies (cold storage=write seldomly).

Cheers.

it is the SMR seagate, there was a great sale on at a local PC shop.

it's for my audio only.  time will tell, i'm not even really sure what "archiving" drive is supposed to mean...i've filled all my internal bays now so if this works out i'll probably get more of them to start replacing older drives.

the digital age is so cool, but at >35Gb for a BD rip and >1Gb for a high res audio album, storage has gotta keep going up!

Archiving-->real slow on writes, standard speed reads, fair longevity  ;)
