Title: Creating a playlist that lists files in a prescribed sequence
Post by: wburkett on February 02, 2016, 04:19:55 pm
Here's what I want to do:

(1) Create a playlist (not a smartlist)
(2) Put songs into the playlist and sequence them in the order I want
(3) Display as a flat track list (ie no grouping) and play the songs in order

This thread is related to the topic:  http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=100638.0

I can get the Playlist to do this if I click on the Sequence column (twice, because it always sorts descending first.)  But every time I navigate away from the playlist and back, the tracks resume their "Group By Album" display format and I have to reorder by sequence again.

Is there any way to get it to stay in the flat track list format?

I've tried to reproduce what you are saying, but I can't seem to make it do anything like that.  Every time I sort by Seq, by clicking the Seq column header, it stays sorted that way, even when I click away to another list and click back.  Maybe posting some screen shots would help to show us what you are seeing.

EDIT:  I think I found the answer!
Tools > Options > Tree & View > Sorting > Save changes on list header clicks > (checked)

If that option is unchecked, it behaves like you described.

Thanks for the response, Brian --

That option is checked for me.  Per your request, here are some screen shots - but first, the set up: as I described, I created a playlist, drag-dropped tracks into it, reordered them in a preferred sequence.  When I navigate into the playlist from somewhere else, I always get this view - "group by" albums and ordered by albums:

I click on Seq and select "Sort All Files by Seq (removes grouping temporarily)" and then get this:

Which is what I want but the playlist will not keep this view - it always reverts to the first.

Interestingly, it had be sorting the seq in inverse order from largest to smallest, but this morning it's sorting from smallest to largest .. weird.

P.S. love the experimental tag window!

Wow.  Really glad you posted a screen shot, because I've never seen this before.  I didn't even know this was possible.  The clue is that you are using Playlist Groups.

Go to your top level Playlist Group (BCS Vetting).  Now click on its header menu and you'll see that there is an option for Group By.  Turn that off and things should start working more normally for you.

That's It!   Thanks, Brian -- I had no idea that the playlist would inherit "group by" and "order by" from the playlist group (and, thus, I never mentioned it).

I had to move the playlist to a new group, however, because I do want the "BCS Vetting" group to be sorted the way it was.

I figured the answer was going to be easy.  I just couldn't figure it out myself.

thanks again - Bill

Good find!

Next build:
Fixed: Lists that didn't support grouping could still get grouped if the parent list was grouped.

Hold shift down while opening the Tag Action Window.  Then it will stay in that mode until you hold shift and open again.
