Title: How to remove trailing spaces - help please
Post by: MusicBringer on February 09, 2016, 11:47:52 am
Hello, I am trying to sort out the many duplicates I have.
I notice that some Names have a trailing space. [Inherited from copy / paste I suspect. grrhh]
Which means they are not exact duplicates.
Please tell me how I can remove all trailing spaces from the Name field.
thanks,

If the spaces are between the end of the filename and the file extension, it's easy to fix using the find and replace mode of the Rename, Move, Copy library tool.  Just set the find field to "find" a space prefixed to the file extension (e.g. " .mp3") and replace with the file extension (".mp3").  Make sure to use the preview function; and be sure to do a few before you do very many, but I've used this method to fix trailing spaces many times.  Then you can fill the name property from the filename if needed.

EDIT: Sorry I thought you were concerned about trailing spaces in filenames, not the [name] tag, I fail at reading comprehension.  You want "clean file properties," see here for instructions: http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=80883.0

Fear not about your reading skills, your knowledge skills are more than adequate.
Many thanks for that info - it cleaned 10568 tags!
