Title: MC 9.1 requires 'virtual cd' driver to function

After using MC 9.1 betas for some time, suddenly placing an audio cd in any of the drives fails to fill the right pane with a listing of songs.

What I do see is the album name in the correct drive but refreshing or trying to perform an 'update from cd database' fails.

I can play an audio cd in WinDVD, not in Windows Media Player (non supported file or some such). I can play the .cda file in MC 9.1 if I select it individually from the File menu. Strangely I can explore the cd, see the .cda files, double click and MC will open but not play the file.

The only think I have done different lately is use the scheduler to keep extensions in line. I have ceased using this but the problem persists.

I have removed 9.1 many times, using differnt betas, and verified file associations.

I've run out of suggestions and welcome any new ones.

I realize this problem is not exclusive to MC but I could use some help in isolating why this has happened.

I have discovered an element of my problem. I recently uninstalled a trial copy of Alcohol 120% and it removed the AXSAKI SCSI Controller entry from device manager.

I used a system restore point to return my OS to a point prior to uninstall and disabled this virtual controller. At that point, MC9.1 stopped being able to 'see' audio cd's.

Has anyone had this problem? My situation might be complicated by the fact that my cd drives are on another controller (AHA-29030CU).

Anyone have a similar problem to this?

Try disbaling/deleting  your drive in device manager.  Your OS will reinstall it on reboot.  Does that sort things out?

I presume you are suggesting I delete/remove the virtual drive created by Alchohol. This drive shows up as 'AXV CD/DVD-ROM SCSI CdRom Device'.

I did this and immediately MC doesn't read audio cd's. Rescan and let it come back and MC works.

At this point, it's clear that MC is completely dependent on the virtual drives created by Alcohol.
