I'd love to see some kind of chrome style silent background install of updates rather than the installer pop up when I go to view a photo!
:)
My laptop spends a lot of time doing nothing... so it's annoying when it does updates when I want to use it!
-
I think what's particularly frustrating about the auto update is if I'm opening a JPEG from explorer and the auto update kicks in - the jpeg is never opened.
So then I need to close MC and reopen the JPEG.
This happens quite frequently with my work flow.

Sorry, but the UAC popup is here to stay.
The only way around that is to install the entire application to the user folder and not write any HKLM registry variables. I don't think we're brave enough for that.
-
UAC is usually turned off on my machines so I don't see that so much.
Could you store a file (or list of files) that MC is supposed to be opening when the update takes place so that it can then at least remember to open it/them when it does complete the update?

I had another thought on this... maybe as an easier solution - auto update could be disabled when MC is opened with a file/file list to open?
