Title: Media Center 9.1.235 beta available
Post by: Matt on August 19, 2003, 12:57:15 pm
Please read VERY carefully. This is a BETA version of 9.1.  If you expect things to work, please download the latest 9.0 build from this thread:

http://www.musicex.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=MediaCenter;action=di splay;num=1054751628

but if you're patient and willing to help us work out some of the bugs, you can download 9.1 here:

ftp://ftp.jriver.com/pub/downloads/music/MediaCenter91235.exe

(backup your library before installing)

Please report any 9.1 problems in this thread.  Keep a list of problems and if they aren't fixed in the next build, please post the list again.

History:
1. Changed: Added a way to tell MC which shortcut to use from the Resource.xml file if there were multiple shortcuts for the same action.
2. Changed: File properties list label / value splitter won't show less than a certain percentage 'value'.
3. Changed: File properties now shows tooltip for truncated labels / values.
4. Fixed: List controls could bounce back when doing a quick click then scroll.
5. Fixed: MC could leak memory on exit.
6. Fixed: Smartlist wizard list could sometimes have a horizontal scrollbar when it shouldn't have.
7. Fixed: Listbox scrollbars could flicker during scrolling on XP.
8. Fixed: List rating stars wouldn't always unhighlight when the mouse left the list.
9. Fixed: Properties window would show unrelated files when switching to a non-file based view. (TV, Start, etc.)
10. Changed: MC behaves more predictably when both optimize volume and set volume on startup are turned on.
11. Fixed: Action Window auto-sizing would sometimes show a scrollbar when it wasn't necessary.

When connecting my Archos Jukebox and navigating to the root of it, it gives an error "An Invalid Argument Was Encountered"

I also cannot drag & drop to the root or via the action pane

BUG:  Properties - Standard Windows right click selections unavailable when right clicking on highlighted text in Properties Window.

BUG:  Playing Now - When right-clicking and selecting Play (from tree, panes, tracks), the Playing Now window does not update until the mouse is clicked somewhere else in MC.

ANNOYANCE:  Action Window keeps changing, based on "something", I'd like to have a lock option, so I get to choose what is displayed.

ANNOYANCE:  Properties is more difficult to get to with the Action Window.  There should be a direct way to access Properties.  (or implement a lock on the Action Window display, and I'll lock it to Properties).

Ctrl+C / Ctrl+V show as the copy / paste shortcuts instead of Ctrl+Insert / Shift+Insert in menus. (you couldn't specify this before)

2. Changed: File properties list label / value splitter won't show less than a certain percentage 'value'.

The label "Date (filename friendly)" would make it so there was no room for the value.  This no longer happens.

Bad news and good news I'm afraid... the options scroll bug is fixed :) but the rules dialog one is not...still getting extraneous horizontal bars :(

Another little thing I noticed because I had files in use MC had to restart windows during the install.  When windows restarted the box said Media Jukebox Installer not Media Center...

Please can there be some way to lock the action window to a minimum size so that it doesn't get reduced down really tiny.  When I saw this:
File properties list label / value splitter won't show less than a certain percentage 'value'.
I thought this was what had been implemented...

1) Dragging the scroll bar in the options menu changes the appearance of the scroll bar from MC skin style to the default windows style and back, making scrolling very jerky. Thanks!

2) Auto Playlist /Recently Imported 100 does not dislplay the selected number of files.

3)When using ASIO for streaming web content, switching stations causes stuttering and occasionally crashes.

4) MC downloads *.rm files instead of streaming them
This is an old bug.

5) I also liked selective text for tool bar buttons.

6)Ease of Use Suggestion: Pictures of buttons should be in menues to the lefte of the corresponding action.

action window toolbar icons when pressed doesn't make the hover effect at once (a pause about 1 second) unless you try these:

Bugs:
1. Right-click and adding new columns to a view (like Playing Now) does NOT add the new column where you right-clicked in the heading...MC is adding the new column as the 1st column always.

I'm not sure if this is specific to the very latest revision, but it's new to one of the recent ones.  I've started noticing some problems when editing Audible (.aa) tags.  MC gets stuck on the "Updating File Properties" screen and I have to close the program and re-open it to get it to function again.  The changes were indeed saved but I'm forced to close and open the program.

A "possible" pattern (I'm not entirely sure about this) is that it seems like this was only happening when I edited in the Action Window -- i.e. when I edited in the song window I "may" not have had this problem.  As I said, I'm not sure about this since I didn't keep playing with it, but I figured I'd mention it anyway.

Sorry Im a couple days behind.. hadn't been downloading daily builds ..but this came out in the last build ..
Changed: List tooltips now show filename.
I have files in a d:\MP3\Source\Artist\Album\Filename.mp3

This gets to be about 3/4th the width of my screen at high res
Anyway to customize what is displayed (sorta like what you did for the top bar Customize Display) ?

When converting a file, it removes the old file from the library.

It used to keep the old one...

Can this be fixed?

Long entries in the comments field [eg text from AMG album reviews]are not displayed properly in the action window/detailed file info tool tip.

Can only see last couple of words in field and it's all on the left edge of the screen.  It's as if the tool tip box changes to Right Align if the field is lengthy.

Just noticed that the tool tip problem - where it is only partly shown and the rest is hidden off the left of the monitor - doesn't just apply to long comments fields in file info.

It also happens sometimes on the tooltip which appears when pointing to a file in the main library window pain.

Repositioning the mouse further right on the screen usually fixes it.

Also, in the main library pane, when I select multiple files, point my mouse at a field, press F2 to edit it, the cursur often ends up at the wrong field.

The File Properties page of the Action Window still doesn't display ANY information when a file on the iPod is highlighted.

Also, like others have reported on this forum, I am getting "sloppy" starts when playing various tracks.  In other words, if I pause and switch to a new spot on a track, I'll hear a little piece from the previous position.  Selecting "smooth starts" in the Playback options alleviates this with mp3's, but not with Audible files.

A couple:-

1. Ripping multiple CD tracks - the CD ripping dialogue crashes to the taskbar after ripping each track. Restoring it each time makes no difference.

2. On a completely fresh install, choosing a different encoder to the default Windows Media from Tools/Options that requires a download from the MC site - in my case the MP3 plug-in - causes MC to crash completely immediatley after installing the plug-in if a music track is playing at the same time.

3.

Small request :)

Could the tree not auto close each time we open up MC?
Could it stay opened or how it was before we closed it?

It'd just be a nice little tweak :)

Thanks!

Lookin good!

I believe it already does this.  On the "Startup settings" options, under "Startup Page," select "Last Location."

It would really help to be able to manually set and lock the size ot the Tree and Action windows.  The way it is now, the tree takes precedence and forces you to scroll the Action window if the AW is set to display enough info.  I'm forced to constantly scroll the Action Window in order to see certain information.

I'd much rather have the ability to have the FULL Action Window visible by manually shrinking the tree to a small size.  Since the tree is used less now (due to the panes) it would seem logical to be able to give it minimal size if desired.

using plugins like lyrics finder and coverart finder with a large number of files makes the action window resets

and i have some kind of comment on action window:
the icons inside it like handled and playlist..etc. need to be a high resolution icons.

Some of the graphics are placeholders at this point.  They will be replaced before release.

I got that Visual C++ runtime error last night while running this build. It's the first time I've ever seen it. Was it ever established what causes this?

Doing a Search when using the 'My Computer' with a list of files doesn't work.

Keeps 'gathering information and updating' which is taking the focus off the search bar and making it really hard to do searches.

drag and drop into the actual visible 'playing now' area doesn't seem to work - only into the bottom bit?

Is this deliberate? If so why?

  • New - Date Opened: 2003/08/20  Priority: High
    ASIO Chokes on 96kbps MP3
MC is failing to play MP3s encoded at 96kbps when ASIO is enabled.  Switching to DirectSound or WaveOut corrects this issue.  It fails regardless of DSP Studio settings.[/s]

Scratch that.  I figured out what was going on.

Read Only Fields - this is a VERY confusing thing. lol.

I just spent 10 minutes going through all the different property groups looking for 'width and height' and trying 'all properties' and sitting there getting very frustrated wondering why it wasn't showing these two fields.

Was on my way here to post a bug and suddenly remembered them.

I DEFINITELY think this should be set to show read only fields as default - it took me 10 m ins to work it out and thats after 3 years of use :)

Oh, forgot to mention as it does not occur often:

When doing task which heavily load the CPU i.e.: analyzing files, renaming/modifying large groups of files, converting formats, etc . . .  the 'working' or status window (?) de-skins to windows defaut shadowed by the skinned window until the processor load allows for reskinning.
Hope I explained that ok.

But (or bug !), right-click upon "Files Info" (who i minimezed on the down toolbar) crashes MC91235 !  >:( :( :-[ :-/

Pretty annoying issue, for I try it now with each, lets say 5th build and am punished really bad each time I do it (Do I like it?). Here is the issue:

REMOTE CONTROL
I don't know exactly when but I was attracted by it since the remote control config. moved from Plugins to the Options Area. Since then (by the way, there is only one type of remote availble so far, were are others), each time I try to start the IRMAN (although I don't have it, I have a SB Extigy with RC, but I'm so desperate as it is the only one available)  plug-in MC gets completly mad. This in that manner, that the MC task has to be killed by XP Task Manager. Afterward MC is not startable any more. Even worse, a reinstall does not work, I first have to completly uninstall MC (loosing all settings), then a new installation is possible. I don't think its the way it should be. Thanks in advance. I feel RC very important for the ease of use of MC and like to see broader support anyhow.
