Hi there.
This is our list of default podcast feeds in Media Center today (in OPML format so I don't have to retype it by hand):
<outline text="Nature Magazine" xmlUrl="http://feeds.nature.com/nature/podcast/current"/>
<outline text="Science Friday" xmlUrl="http://www.sciencefriday.com/audio/scifriaudio.xml"/>
<outline text="Engadget" xmlUrl="http://podcasts.engadget.com/rss.xml"/>
<outline text="On the Media" xmlUrl="http://www.onthemedia.org/feeds/episodes/otm/"/>
<outline text="NPR on Music" xmlUrl="http://www.npr.org/rss/podcast.php?id=1039"/>
<outline text="Slate Magazine" xmlUrl="http://feeds.feedburner.com/SlateMagazineDailyPodcast"/>
<outline text="The World Technology" xmlUrl="http://www.theworld.org/rss/tech.xml"/>
<outline text="CBS Face the Nation" xmlUrl="http://feeds.cbsnews.com/podcast_nation_1"/>
<outline text="Chris Evans" xmlUrl="http://downloads.bbc.co.uk/podcasts/radio2/evans/rss.xml"/>
A few of the links above have since broken.
I think Engadget, NPR on Music, and Science Friday have all died.
So I'm looking for advice to help us tune the list a little.
Thanks for any help.

Not sure what you're asking for here, podcast suggestions?
<outline text="This American Life" xmlUrl="http://feed.thisamericanlife.org/talpodcast"/>
<outline text="Radiolab" xmlUrl="http://feeds.wnyc.org/radiolab"/>
<outline text="99% Invisible" xmlUrl="http://feeds.99percentinvisible.org/99percentinvisible"/>
-
I'm a fan of NPR's "Car Talk" http://www.cartalk.com/player5/player.php?a=show
http://www.npr.org/podcasts/?type=provider&value=204
-
Another one that might replace NPR on Music:
<outline text="All Songs Considered" xmlUrl="http://www.npr.org/templates/rss/podcast.php?id=510019"/>
-
Let's start working on a new list. This is what I have, incorporating the above and removing the dead links:
<outline text="Nature Magazine" xmlUrl="http://feeds.nature.com/nature/podcast/current"/>
<outline text="On the Media" xmlUrl="http://www.onthemedia.org/feeds/episodes/otm/"/>
<outline text="Slate Magazine" xmlUrl="http://feeds.feedburner.com/SlateMagazineDailyPodcast"/>
<outline text="The World Technology" xmlUrl="http://www.theworld.org/rss/tech.xml"/>
<outline text="CBS Face the Nation" xmlUrl="http://feeds.cbsnews.com/podcast_nation_1"/>
<outline text="Chris Evans" xmlUrl="http://downloads.bbc.co.uk/podcasts/radio2/evans/rss.xml"/>
<outline text="This American Life" xmlUrl="http://feed.thisamericanlife.org/talpodcast"/>
<outline text="Radiolab" xmlUrl="http://feeds.wnyc.org/radiolab"/>
<outline text="99% Invisible" xmlUrl="http://feeds.99percentinvisible.org/99percentinvisible"/>
<outline text="Car Talk" xmlUrl="http://www.npr.org/rss/podcast.php?id=510208"/>
<outline text="All Songs Considered" xmlUrl="http://www.npr.org/templates/rss/podcast.php?id=510019"/>
More?
Thanks.

This is certainly not a common podcast. But it's the only podcast i really listen to.
Real Synthetic Audio is the most listened to Industrial net-radio show
<outline text="Real Synthetic Audio" xmlUrl="http://feeds.feedburner.com/Rsaudio"/>
-
Here are a few of my absolute favorites:
Science Topics (in a "Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me" like style, kinda):
<outline text="The Infinite Monkey Cage" xmlUrl="http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00snr0w/episodes/downloads.rss"/>
TV and Movie Reviews and Commentary:
<outline text="The Incomparable" xmlUrl="http://feeds.theincomparable.com/theincomparable"/>
Tech News and Discussion:
<outline text="Accidental Tech Podcast" xmlUrl="http://atp.fm/episodes?format=rss"/>
Security News (and a Video feed which might be fun to include):
<outline text="Security Now (Video)" xmlUrl="http://feeds.twit.tv/sn_video_large"/>
or the audio only version:
<outline text="Security Now (Audio)" xmlUrl="http://feeds.twit.tv/sn.xml"/>
Each of these:
* Are not super-niche.
* Are well produced and high-quality.
* Have a long track record of consistent releases (security now has been going for-ever).

Oh, and I almost forgot (how could I?)...
Indescribable:
<outline text="Hello Internet" xmlUrl="http://www.hellointernet.fm/podcast?format=rss"/>
PS. And I definitely agree with TAL and Radiolab.

For weekly film reviews here is the revered BBC "Wittertainment" team of Simon Mayo and Mark Kermode. Been running every week for years now...

Why can't it be configurable? What I would like isn't what anyone here would like.

Its only about the defaults, you can configure your own just fine.

Home Theater Geeks: http://feeds.twit.tv/htg.xml
They had "Bob Katz on Audio (https://twit.tv/shows/home-theater-geeks/episodes/284?autostart=false)" on December 10, 2015.

I updated the list above with some of the additional suggestions. Thanks a lot!
-
I now put the new defaults in the next build.
I think if you've already used podcasting, it won't recreate the defaults.
So you'll need to right-click Podcasts in the tree and pick Add Default Feeds.
Thanks a lot for all the help.
