Title: mc 21 crashing on mac mini el capitan; log attached
Post by: edwardfox on May 09, 2016, 10:56:24 am
i'm using mc 21 in evaluation status, but will probably pay for license in due course. but a few days ago, mc 21 started crashing after playing for about twenty minutes. my music is on an external hard disk drive (usb). here is a link to the log. i would be grateful for advice.

Is the drive a USB 3.0 drive?  If so, is it plugged into a USB 3.0 port?

thanks for quick reply. no, it's usb 2.0. (mac mini 2009). is that considered an antique?

It looks like auto import might be having a problem, but it's hard to say.  I definitely see LOTS of "skipped bad file" messages in the log.  Like this:

0260735: 3825664: Import: AddFile: Skipping bad file: /Volumes/FreeAgent GoFlex Drive/Macintosh HD Backup/Users/edwardfox/Library/Application Support/CrossOver/Bottles/Internet Explorer 7.0/dosdevices/y:/Library/Application Support/NCH Software/Express/test.wav

You might turn off auto import for a while and see if the problem happens again.  If it doesn't, you can have some assurance that auto import is what's causing it.

Is that drive referenced above a backup drive?  If so, I wouldn't think you'd want to import files from it.  Or at least that directory that may contain backups.

Brian.

many thanks.

1 - i do have auto import running. i'll turn it off & see what happens.

2 - the drive used isn't a backup drive.

many thanks

You can set auto import options in MC to tell MC what folders and drives to watch.

You can set auto import options in MC to tell MC what folders and drives to watch.

It's probably best to just turn it off for testing:
Options > Library & Folders > Run auto-import in background

It's probably checking a drive that isn't there.
