Title: Id Pi -- Coming Soon
Post by: JimH on May 12, 2016, 09:49:39 am
We're getting close to having the Id working on the Raspberry Pi.

Here's a post about the Home Automation / IoT software we've been working on, installed on a Pi:

We expect to ship it on a micro-SD card.  Inserted in the Pi, it will boot as an Id.  You will need to enter the license by hand.

That's very interesting and I'm looking forward seeing your project working. How's the audio output working? Does it work with HATs like the boards from HiFiBerry?

Thanks!

Probably in a week or so.
There is one major kink to get out because it's using systemd for startup.
The Id Pi will be audio only at least for now.

Bob,

Just to confirm that this will work for my 2 case scenarios?

1. In between my computer (JRiver Media Center running) and my Oppo 103 due to failure of Oppo being able to play gapless over a network.  I assume I will be able to run a network cable to the Pi and then HDMI to Oppo.  controlled by Gizmo.

2. In between my computer and Sherwood Newcastle R-972. Setup as #1

Will Media Center be able to distinguish between 2 Pi's?
I assume that I will be utilizing the internal dacs of the Oppo and Sherwood; correct?
Will these work with 2 channel as well as multi-channel? And Hi Resolution?

Thanks

That sounds fine to me.
Each Id has a unique name and you can rename them anyway.
As long as the 2 devices can do what you want over HDMI you should be ok. IIRC though, the RPi HDMI can't do multichannel, you might want to check the threads regarding that in the linux forum.
Perhaps your device(s) have a USB input as well?

The Oppo does have USB, so I should be good there then(Will i still have bass management without using the Oppo's HDMI?). The Sherwood does not :(.....Would the Id Classic work?(multi-channel over HDMI?)

I know there are people hacking to get some multichannel on the RPi. I don't know what the limitations are or what the status of that is.

The classic does support multichannel over HDMI.

2..8 channels, sampling rates 32000, 44100, 48000, 88200, 96000, 176400, 192000 Hz

Hendrik and Yaobing got beta units today.
Noticed a couple of issues with them. Should be pretty easy to iron out...
