I'm looking for a few people who have experience with Z-Wave and don't break down in tears when things break. Any interest?
-
Hi Jim, I don't have any experience with Z-Wave, but I don't break down when things break, either :-)
What's required?
-
What kind of Z-Wave skills/experience do you need? I have been running a Z-wave based home automation setup for year's (VeraLite and now VeraPlus). I am also using my controller to trigger commands to JRiver for Play control as well as RS-232 control of my 3 amps that deliver music to the JRiver based whole home audio setup.
-
Thanks. I probably should have said anyone who has home automation experience and has a few Z-Wave devices or doesn't mind buying a couple.
You're the dream team.
You will receive further instructions soon.
Thanks again.
-
I'm happy to order a light bulb and a PC controller to start with :-)
-
Thank you. I like the Z-Stick from Aeon Labs. Most of their stuff works great.
-
Obviously I don't have the Aeon controller but I am a fan of their modules which I have variety of.
-
Jim,
I have an Echo and Hue lighting system. I have written a plugin for my HUE lights for MC that, among other tricks, dims my living room lights to off when starting a movie, half way up on pause and back their original state on stop.
I am currently messing around with a Pi 3.
I would be inclined to purchase some Z-wave items to experiment with.... no tears..

Thanks. You would need a Z-Stick and something to control. Aeon Labs makes a single outlet switch (Smart Switch) and an outlet strip. They would be generally useful. I've written about both on this board. The Field Trip thread has links to all but the outlet strip.
-
FYI I have both the Smart Power Bar and about a half dozen of the single Smart Switches from Aeon.
-
Ordered the Aeon labs z-stick and smart switch a few days ago (in prep for your control software). More than happy to assist, but short on experience.
-
OK. Thanks.
-
Aeon z-stick and smart switch arrived yesterday. Successfully paired and sent power on and power off commands. Very much looking forward to Engen.
-
I've added a few people to the team. You should see a new board below this board when viewed from the index page.
-
Thanks Jim.
I should be in a position to purchase the stick and a bulb within the next couple of weeks.
Looking forward to getting stuck in :-)
-
My hardware is on the way.
-
I have extensive experience with automation in general. (KNX, 433 mhz, enocean, and with the homeseer-software). Not so much with Z-wave, but It would be interesting to buy some Z-wave-equipment and check it out (I live in europe)
-
Jim,
This is a fascinating project, I'd love to join the beta team. I have experience with home network projects and have had a JRiver server running for years. Happy to buy some hardware and get started!

I have an Aeon labs zstick that I use primarily to control the smart switches that my amp and sub are plugged into. I have the toggles as quick links in my taskbar and they are programmed as sequences in my logitech remote.
-
Good to hear. Are you volunteering?

Good to hear. Are you volunteering?
Yes, I should've made that clearer. I'm out of commission for the next week but in after that.
-
Jim,
I have a home seer smart stick plus USB and a variety of devices from light switches, RGBW controller and security. Currently it's all part of a proof of concept lab for a new house install. So doesn't matter if it breaks. It wouldn't be me that cries, it would be the wife, but as its being tested, she won't know :)
Let me know what you need

Thanks, Graham. Look for a new board now.

Still looking for a Few Good Men or Women.
-
Hey Jim, I have a lot of home automation going on at the moment and would love to see what you have going on and help you test.
-
Thanks. You should see another board now.
-
The Engen Beta board should now be visible to anyone who is logged in.
