Title: How to update portable install? [SOLVED]

I've tried several times now with different releases by my portable install 21.0.50 never gets updated.  The installer downloads and runs, but updates the local installation and not the portable one.  Then when I restart the portable version I get a message about a failed updated.  I have to click cancel update to run again.

I'm sure I'm missing something, or do we have to download the udpated version and do a full new portable install?

A search turned up this:

You can't update a portable install like a regular install. Its best to disable automatic updates on it.
To update a portable install
- First update your regular install of MC.
- Then, while MC is closed, run the MC installer again but this time choose the portable option.
- When asked for a directory, choose your portable install location and install on top of your existing portable install.

Thanks.  I searched for that using at least 5 different search queries and that post never came up.

Edit:  never thought of searching in MC19 specifically though.

Downloading the installer, running once locally to update the local copy, then running a second time to update the portable install worked perfectly.
