Title: Re: Strange Database Anomaly (SOLVED)
Post by: Beamer on June 03, 2016, 04:53:06 pm
Has anyone else experienced a problem with Various Artists albums having single tracks duplicated as a separate album.

The Classic Score CD1 is tagged twice, once wilt all tracks and once with a single track (see screen capture)

The tagging is correct when checked by MC and Tag&Rename.  If I only load a few albums into the database that include The Classic Score CD1 the album is recognized correctly as one album.

I have deleted and cleaned the database but a soon as the file count increases the phenomenon shows up again but strangely only appears to be associated with files tagged under "Various Artists"

Could you post two additional screenshots, the first after clicking on the Classic Score Disc 1 in the row below (the third row down)? Secondly could you select both the Classic Score Disc 1 albums (ctrl+click) and then hit alt-enter to bring up the Tag pane, right click an empty space in the tag pane and select "Show all Tags" and take another screenshot?

When I had this happen it had to do with the disk number.  Check the tags in that field.

Screenshots as requested:

Is it possible that MC has a limit with respect to the number of entries with the same artist name, in this case various artists?

Here is another example of the same phenomenon. Each track has its own album entry!

Something to test....

If you select every image for the separated album does the album field in the left panel show album name or [Varies]?

If you right click and choose Locate--> on disk (exernal) are all the tracks in that same folder?

Left click "tools" (tooltip name) button on tag panel left and click "also show" then from the taglist select (left click) "Complete Album" and "Disc #" fields in order to see that MC has determined album as a one complete album and there are correct disc # number filled if album is multi disc.

This anomaly arises when the 'Artist' and 'Album Artist' tags conflict.

Used Tag&Rename to fill the Album Artist with the Artist information and bingo :)

^ Glad to hear you found a way to fix it.  MC can edit tags directly also.  Just use the Tagging Window on the left.  You bring that up with Edit > Tag .

You might also want to read this information about Album Artist and Album Artist (auto) from the wiki.  It explains the behavior:
