Title: Atmos tracks bitstreaming
Post by: LeoB on July 06, 2016, 09:15:42 am
Is there a simple way to automatically turn on bitstreaming for Atmos tracks?

I would think you could write a rule for an Atmos zone.

Since most Blu-rays are in DTS-HD, you could turn on bitstreaming for all Dolby TrueHD files. There will be some that aren't Atmos, but it might not matter to you.

Tools > Options > Audio > Settings > Bitstreaming > Custom

For a setting just for Atmos, read Zone switching based on audio codec (http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=101018.0).

Thank you guys.

I'll set up the Atmos zone. Just hoped there was a simpler way to do it.

Like mojave said, the "easy way" it just to bitstream all Dolby True HD files.  That doesn't require a new zone or anything special.

To isolate Atmos, you need to manually tag every Atmos file, because that metadata isn't available from the file itself.  Are you going to manually tag all of your Atmos files like FitBrit outlined in the linked post?

But what about DTS:X. I did not ask about it, because I thought the solution would be the same.

Following your logic I should bitstream all DTS-HD files as well. I don't want to do this, because there is quite a lot of DTS-HD movies with 2 or 4 channel sound tracks, and I want to use JRiver up-mixer for them.

I was just addressing the "easy" part of your request. Certainly being more granular with your setup gives you more options.  It's also slightly more complex.   As long as you're ok with that, it will be awesome.  :)
