I took advantage of the current lower price on Amazon for the new Hauppauge 1595 USB Dual Tuner.
I downloaded the latest driver package from the Hauppauge web site and installed it, and then replaced my older 950Q with the 1595.
Every time I try to do a channel scan, it causes MC21 to freeze. I did select one of the two tuners for the scan.
(The tuner does work with the existed channels scanned by the 950Q, so only the scan is a problem. )
Here is the television related filter info, with log file attached:

So does the log tell you anything ?

I have one of these new WinTV-dualHD tuners myself. When I tried to do a channel scan on it, at first it had locked up on me as well. It remained at the "Starting channel scan..." step for so long, I eventually used Task Manager to kill it (MC had become unresponsive and "Cancel" didn't work).
It took several retries (relaunching the program each time after end-tasking it) before the channel scan finally worked. Once it moves past "Starting channel scan.." to "Scanning for digital channels", everything is okay.
The one time I tried to enable logging, it actually did the channel scan correctly, so that wouldn't have helped diagnose the lock-up.

Yes. The program was stuck when it makes a tune request. My only guess is that the device driver does not like us making tune request without specifying all parameters. But that is what we have to do when scanning for channels - we do not know the channel parameters, so we have to just start with the lowest physical channel (channel 2) without any other parameters (such as major channel and minor channel numbers).

How is that different from what is done when scanning using the 955Q by the same manufacturer?

There is no difference from MC's point of view. So I think this might be a Hauppauge bug.
