Title: plug in request CDDB
Post by: decrease on August 05, 2003, 06:08:22 am
Is it possible for a plug in to be developed that would allow you to use a different CD database such as FreeDB cause media center doesnt pick some of my CD's up on its database...

That would be very nice specially CDDB..
but we talked about that before and for using such service like CDDB requires huge Cash more than YADB.. as i think...

But if someone was to write a plugin, it wouldn't be jriver's problem surely? Or can you not access it without a license or something?

They have a free lookup on the web, so it would be possible to write a plugin that calls the webpage, submits the artist/album name and then retrieves the track listings.

So all those freeware (http://download.com.com/3120-20-0.html?titlename=&author=&desc=CDDB&qt=&ca=&os=&daysback=&li=49&dlcount=&dlsize=&swlink=false) tools that support CDDB have paid for large licenses?

That's a question I've never had adequately answered.  Same excuse for the lack of AAC support.  It may cost a lot for licenses but how do these independent developers afford it?

What if "some Joe" writes a CDDB or AAC plug-in for MC?  Would that be OK?

I suggest you contact Gracenote (CDDB) or Dolby (AAC).

well i have a working plug-in for cddb, but it is rather hard to cram that info into MC9 to fill the fields. If MC9 had a way for me to push that info into the current cd i would make a plug-in, but the MC9 SDK does not support this.

I do have a free license with CDDB and do not think it will violate the license per the info i got from them and they allowed me to renew my license knowing that.

as far as FreeDB Yadb started with the freeDB database and was cleaned up alot.

I am working with the freeDB database now and it is a mess so it is not even a good idea.

When I can't get CD info from YADB I simply set those disks aside . . . .  then RIP them in EAC or other software which uses CDDB or FreeDB.
I find this much easier than typing   ;D

I'm going to close this thread since we don't support CDDB.
