We made a change a few weeks ago so that when MC does the Tools/Acquire Images, it pops up the Recently Imported playlist. You then can see what you just brought into MC.
Should we do the same with Import?
-
I think this would be a great idea

I think this would be a great idea as well. I know in other players that when you add tunes you are typically brought to the tunes you added (in some manner). This would let you know exactly what got added.
Oh, I assume you're referring to any media, not just images--if so, yes, it would be great!. ;)

Yes, any media.

Fine by me. :)
Count me in.

How about another option?

Just kidding...
I like the idea, since I always click Recently Imported after importing anyway. Saves me a mouse click, I like it.

Not me. Sounds like a perfect thing to have as an option, along with...
...Remember View Filter setting on close?
...Clear Playing Now on dbl click when playback is in stopped state?
...Remember Search Criteria results when switching between nodes on the tree?

Yes, I think it's an interesting idea :)
-
For my uses, this sounds annoying. I know what I imported - I just imported it. I guess I could understand the utility if you're importing directly from a device, like a camera, but I don't do that. Even if I did, it would happen far less often than shell-menu imports from Explorer.
edit: Forgot to mention that I usually delete Recently Imported along with all of the default playlists. What happens then?
-
Yep, cool idea
-
Great idea... especially as I always tag just after importing. This saves me a step.

Would just add an extra click for me - I always tag my files and make sure they're rated and tagged correctly before importing them. I'd have to then just come out of it.
I can see I'm already outvoted though so no biggie :)
I like the sounds of the options that phelt mentioned though.
Options that control how MC behaves are a great thing and would just require one new set of options - all to do with behavior.
Add to those options an option for: Reset panes to right when selecting new values to the left - so we can turn this off and be able to change the left panes without the right one being reset and - woot woot!! YES :)
-
By default yes, but I think it should be optional. I for one wouldn't want this (I run an import every time I run the software, because I add a lot of media from other sources, but I'm not usually interested in seeing what it imported)
-
I'd rather have it as an option.
What would happen if you played a file (not imported) and then did "Import into Library"? If it changed views, this would be bad because you were in another view already.
Same thing goes with 'Double-Click'. I can't use the 'Send To' feature because anytime I import, it changes. Anytime you play songs, it sometimes changes to 'recently played'. It should just leave it alone with using that.
-
Nila: I think you've got me confused with someone else... haven't mentioned options in this thread :)

What do you use to "pre-tag" before importing?
-
Personally, I'd love this. I always run the Import tool, jump to Recently Imported (I even set it as a Favorites item) and then tag the files, clean up the file properties, rename the file based on my criteria, run audio analysis, and then move the file to its permanent location.
I have Recently Imported set up to display only the tags I'm interested in:
Artist
Album
Name
Track #
Genre
Date
Lyrics
Bios
Comment (to make sure it's empty)
Image File
Bitrate (in case I download multiple copies of the same file, I can keep the one that's the highest quality)
Duration (to make sure the file's length is correct based on what I find on AMG)
and File Properties set to display only the columns in the current view. I click on the file, then click the Artist Info button, copy all of the relevant information out of AMG into the tag. Then I go search for lyrics. This has really streamlined the process I go through when importing files, and having Import take me right there just means two less clicks for me. I'd love it.

Remember View Filter setting on close
That option is already in the "View Filter" menu.
-
sorry Phelt - I meant x - just didn't pay attention :)
g - I use Media Jukebox but I have all my newly ripped/downloaded songs in one folder, I navigate to it using: MC->My Computer and tagg them and play each album through once and rate each track.
Once I've finished rating it I then move the whole album to my main mp3 dir and then import it (right click, Media Center - import) - I have other files in the folders so use explorer to move it not MC.
Haven't used anything else to tagg in ages.
Only other real program I use for my mp3's is Enc Spot Pro to give me a rough idea of the quality, encoder used, etc. I'd love it if MC could do this but as of yet - its a job for Enc :)

By golly Matt, when did you sneak that in? Tubular!
