I can't seem to play back MP4 files in JRiver 21 on a Windows 10 PC.
The message I get is "Something went wrong with playback"
Any help would be appreciated.

Are they M4P files? Those are Apple's protected format (DRM).
Audio or video?
-
Yes, the file in question is an mp4 video file, AAC encoded.
JRiver says "The media type 'video' is not supported"
-
That's very odd.
Is it a pretty old machine?
Do other video files play?
Make sure you have the latest build of MC21 installed. It's on this board or in "Old Versions" on our wiki.

MP4 and M4P are two different things. MP4 *Video* many times will be M4V instead of MP4, but both are "legal" file extensions.
Now, you've said your file is Video and that it uses AAC. AAC is an audio only codec. Presumably there is a video stream in there too. Do these files show up under your Audio area or your Video area? Is that where they imported naturally, or did you change the Media Type field?
Finally, it would be useful if we could be sure about what's in these files. You should get a utility like MediaInfo that can tell you exactly what's inside your files. Here's a link:

Does mp4 files use LAV? Can you be sure it downloaded correctly in the background and is working?

I think I know the problem here. Thus far I've only used MC21 for audio. I don't see a section for video on the left hand side.
How do I enable video in MC21? I'm running Windows 10.
Incidentally, if I just double click the file in Windows Explorer it plays both video and audio.

Tools > Options > General > Features > Video Support > (checked)
This is on by default, but you may have turned it off at some point.
