Hi,
I'm using MC9 to quickly tag all my photos and then rename them from the numeric name that a digital camera gives them. It works superb except for one thing... It wants to overwrite same named files. e.g.
I tag a number of files with:
Me Sarah SchoolDisco
When I try to name the files it will only do one and then ask to overwrite that one with the next.
How can I get it to just add a different number to the end e.g Me_Sarah_SchoolDisco_1.jpg?
I'm using the latest Beta
Regards
Vic

You may add the track numbers [track #] to the name, but I am not sure.
First insert track # in the selected files, then make a naming template that includes the track #.
This way could work, but there might be other, simpler ways.

If they dont already have track numbers then get the files in the order you want them (if u dont care then just leave them) - then choose: Tools - fill track number from list order - this will give them all track numbers.
Then go to: Tools - rename from properties
Here you can enter anything u want. To insert a field into the name put the field name inbetween square brackets
ie.
Me, Sarah, School Disco [Put Field Name Here]
to use track number:
Me, Sarah, School Disco [Track #]
If your tagging your images then you should be using the 'people' field and setting both u and sarah as values for that picture with event sent to 'school disco' - if you are doing this then u'd want a template something like this:
[people] - [event] - [track #]
which would give you:
Sarah - school disco - 1
or something
Have fun playing!

MC has a GREAT bunch of tools to do most tasks.
If you have any task you do regularly that is laborious but simple and repetitive in what your doing and theres no fast way of doing it just come on the board and ask if it can do it - if it cant - post the problem and Matt usually oblidges and add's the tool.
He added: Quick find cover art' - on my request to quickly add the cover art without us having to select it manually each time. Not quite as powerful as I need it to be and lacking a few options for it - but still a great tool none the less to save time.

Hi Guys,
Thanks for that. There is just one little problem.
I've renamed a load of files but the field 'Name' under each thumbnail is still the old numbered name (e.g. 11000036)
So I removed them all and reimported them into the library assuming that because the file name has now been changed then thats what it will use for the 'Name' when I reimported them, but it didn't.
I dont know where it's getting the original name from now ?
Am I going to have to rename the Name field for every image!
