Title: Image tagging: Useability/Convenience...
Post by: marko on August 27, 2016, 03:48:55 am
Image tagging using pane tagging...

I could swear that using the tick boxes to apply the tag would leave the focus in the file list. It's not doing that now, so, if I click to apply a tag, then arrow down, the selection in the pane changes rather than the list moving on to the next image.

Can this be fixed?

Also, I'm finding that after applying the first tag using pane tagging, or clicking in the "new keyword" check box, after applying that tag, focus goes somewhere strange requiring two clicks in the list to get it back there...

Tagging images in MC used to be a breeze but seems to be becoming a more and more bumpy experience lately. Got loads to get through here...

Mouse down in a list just sets the focus to that list.  So clicking a checkbox is going to focus the list.

I'm not sure about changing that because it's pretty core to how the program works.

Fair enough Matt. I've found with a single pane, TAB sends focus back to the list, or, like you say, the mouse wheel still scrolls the unfocussed list to the next image, so I'm getting by a bit better.

How about the oddness after adding a new keyword via the "new item" check box? Do you see that too or is it just me?

I just see the focus jump back to the pane that just added the keyword, which seems pretty normal.

For me here, after using the "add item" dialogue, it doesn't matter where I click next in the program, let's take the "Stop" button for example, to stop music...

So, add the new whatever, mostly keywords for me, but I also get this behaviour if I use pane tagging to add a new [note], press OK to confirm the new item, then press the stop button.

Nothing happens. A second press is required.

That was a pretty deep mystery!  But hopefully it should be fixed next build.

Thanks for the report.

Appears to be working OK now, thanks for that.

Here's another speed bump...

Add new value...
Type new keyword > Press enter... Nothing happens...
I have to click on the half-visible "Ok" button to apply the tag.
Presumably, the auto-complete list is preventing "Enter" key from working?

I can't reproduce that at all.  I type a new keyword, press "Enter" and the dialog goes away nicely.

Mine does too, so long as there's no auto-complete list.

To be sure, I removed all of my "Custom" folders from "Data", and switched to Noire...

I want to add keyword "Wh" (well not really, but let's pretend) and the Enter is not working here...

If I press escape, the auto complete list closes, and then the enter key applies the tag.

Oh, it's when it's showing suggestions.  I can reproduce.  Not sure if it's a bug or just the way it is, but let me probe a little.

Coming next build:
Fixed: Pressing enter in the new value dialog for pane tagging wouldn't close the dialog if a suggestion was being shown.

The reason for that was kind of silly.  We want the suggestion box to accept Shift+Enter to select the first suggestion.

So it would say "Yeah, give me enter!"

But it needs to check if the shift key is actually pressed before saying that or else it just eats the enter key in all cases!

All sorted. Thanks again Matt.
I didn't know about shift+enter either, so something else learned from this too.
