Title: Playback DSD on non DSD Dac Antelope Zodiac Gold (64Bit 384kHz) DAC ?
Post by: casaahman on October 06, 2016, 11:10:12 am
How can I playback DSD on my non DSD Dac Antelope Zodiac Gold (64Bit 384kHz) DAC ? Due to Zodiac Gold DAC do not support DSD playback.
I am MC18 user. Should I upgrade to MC22?

DSD files should be converted to PCM on-the-fly and played unless DSD bitstreaming is enabled or you're using DSP studio to convert output to DSD (which is what one could do with a DSD-capable DAC). I'm not sure if it works this way in MC 18 though, it does in MC 22.

Have you tried to play the DSD files? Have you made sure DSD bitstreaming is not enabled? Also made sure there's no DSD output format selected in DSP studio? Otherwise if the DSD files successfully playback, conversion to PCM is working.

You need to set DSP Studio - Output format to convert DSD to PCM on the fly. Set the highest sample rate setting (>384KHz or >768KHz) to the desired PCM sample rate (like 176 KHz). The > sample rate means DSD.  Then set 352 KHz to convert to 176 KHz and 705 KHz to convert to 352 KHz, for example.  When converting DSD, MC converts to 1/8 the original sample rate. So, 2.82 MHz gets converted to 352 KHz and 5.6 MHz gets converted to 705 KHz. That is why you need to add the sample rate conversions for 352 KHz and 705 KHz. At least, that is the way it is currently. At some point in the past, I think you could just put the desired PCM rate in the >384 KHz line and it would resample to that rate. It then got changed to the current method. I do not remember which way MC 18 did it, but you get the idea.

Thanks for all replys.
Sorry about my poor english.
My DAC not a DSD capable DAC. That is why I need to ask how to set MC22 let me can playback DSD to my not a DSD capable DAC.

To set DSD to PCM conversion

Tools - Options - Audio

Under Settings Choose DSP and Output Format

Check Output Format

Right Click on Greater than 192,000 KHz

Select the desired output format, e.g. 176,000 KHz

Now when you play a DSD it will be converted to 176,000 KHz PCM.

When playing a DSD, click on the box at the top right with 3 verticals lines (Audio Path). It will show you the conversion that is being done.
