I am trying to change the file location of my Cover art to save space on my SSD
Every time I change the location and click OK MC hangs and has to be stopped. Meanwhile the change has not been made
Build 22.0.34
I must add I find MC a bit more sluggish than normal , is that Me ?

Antivirus?
Do you have permission to write to the new location?
-
Yes its on the main Audio HDD where the albums live
Mike

Is it a local drive?
What about antivirus software?
-
Nope
Adjusted the Anti Virus (Windows Defender) to exclude the Data Drives . Still hangs.
I tried to change the file location back to C:\Users Appdata etc and it still hangs
Any more thoughts ?

re installed 22.0.22 build same error

Are you using MC when connected as a client to MC on another machine?
-
Not strictly . I have mc working as a server. The other end is a Cambridge audio CXN
My ssd is very full maybe 5 gb spare could that be it ?

Perhaps, they don't like getting full and can just appear to freeze up when that happens (though they will eventually start working again in this case if you wait long enough).
Anyway did you try copying the folder in explorer to the new location then telling MC where the new location is? Does it hang if you do that?

I found the reason but not the explanation. I have a 2Tb HDD for music files, I had put the Cover Art folder on it as well
For some reason the whole music library had been copied in the cover art folder , several times making it massive
I have copied out only the covers
Then I changed the location and it still hangs

Is it a USB 3.0 drive? If so, make sure it's on a USB 3.0 port.
-
It may main desktop, i7 , 16 GB RAM etc and its an internal 4Gb SATA Drive. I am trying to put the Cover are back into User> appdata>Roaming> JRiver 22 > etc on the SSD

I am still struggling to do this.
I have cleaned up my C drive it now has 12G of space so that isn't the issue.
I change the File Location for Cover Art and then click OK to close the Options screen, I left it then for 10 mins and it was still sitting there doing nothing .
Click anywhere and MC just crashes. This is the same as its been for days. I thought maybe no room on the C Drive may have been the issue but 12 G is plenty . The whole users/JRiver is about 6 Gb. I am trying to get it off my C drive

It's unclear what you are trying to do. But here is some general advice:
First, find out where MC thinks the cover art is now.
Shut down MC completely.
Now, go to the cover art location from above and move everything where you want your cover art to be located.
Make sure it's just cover art and not a mixture of art and music files (you indicated above that this had happened at one time.)
So now you should have just cover art, in a place where MC does NOT KNOW where it is.
Start up MC. Change the cover art location to the new directory.
I would expect this change to happen instantly because MC is not moving any files.

Thanks Brian
I Know the problem now . In options I have Covert Art folder set as F:\ this is mymain audio disk it contains 1.6Gb. If I try to change the folder to anything else, MC starts to copy the contents of F:\ all 1.6 Gb to the new location OOPS !!
No wonder it hangs
I cannot change the Covert Art folder using the GUI as this happens
I have uninstalled , cleaned up all gash folders but when I restore my Library it happens all over again
I suppose I could uninstall clean up and then rebuild the library from scratch (UGH all 70K Files) I assume a clean install will put cover art in in Uses/.../Roaming/ etc
Is there a Registry Entry I can adjust or some config hidden where I can manually change the Options setting from F:\ to say F:\Cover Art
I have dug around but I can't see one
Any thoughts

I'm guessing there is a registry entry, but I'm not sure. I hope someone else knows!
About restoring your library: There are two check boxes when doing a restore: Data and Settings. If you uncheck settings, it will not restore your settings, including cover art directory. That might be one way to go.
Good luck.

You could probably remap F: to Z: for long enough to make a change.

Yep.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\JRiver\Media Center 22\Properties\File Location - Image File Location
Make sure MC is completely closed (including Media Server in the tray) before you change it.

Thanks Glynor
However that Key isn't there
But not to worry I tried Jim's trick and managed to change it
Thanks
Mike

Yeah. If not there, you'd just have to add it. Jim's trick was a reasonable way to go too, though.
