I amusing Media Center the latest edition. I love the product - however I am having trouble RIPPING MP3s,. I get the following error "Open Drive Failed. Parameter is Out of Range". I get this error whether I try to RIP MP3 or MP3 VBR. If I use any other software such as Pinnacle etc., the problem does not exist. Also, I have the SAME problem on two different computers?
I am running Windows XP Pro. Any idea what could be going on? This is a huge bummer for me....a great software otherwise but if I can't use it to RIP, then.....

Copy & paste your info from MC>Help>System Info. Sounds like (possibly) your drive isn't supported.

Actually, that may not be true. This is a Windows Xp Pro machine on a network. If I log in using Administrator (local or domain), the Ripping etc works just fine. If I log in as a Power User, then it does NOT work. The problem is occuring on three different computers - one 2 yr old Dell, one 6 month old Dell and an IBM Thinkpad which is a month old. THis furhter lends credibility to the fact that may NOT be a hardware problem.

You hit it...it is not a hardware problem. Apparently MC still needs absolute rights to the system that only an administrator account can fulfill. I thought power user was enough...apparently not. This may be addressed in later builds of 9.1, or surely by V10. This has been posted about in the past, though not lately.

Well, that's pretty dumb, especially for a software such as MC which otherwise is far and above its competition. Even really really sucky MP3 software doesn't have this problem so it makes me wonder why MC does.
