Title: NO UK EPG DATA MC2XML
Post by: trevoraiston on January 03, 2017, 06:41:05 am
Tried other lineups but problem seems to lie with Microsoft again.

Probably a naive question but with millions of UK standard Freeview TV viewers regularly getting EPG. What is the issue with HTPC TV's data sources?

What are my alternatives within MC?

You can try using the new over-the-air EPG option.  It is quite fast and complete in recent builds of MC22 for DVB users.  I do not know how it compares with MC2XML data though.

Nope, still empty epg. It went through  about 180 channels but no programme data.

What version of MC are you using?  22.0.54 is on the MC22 board, near the top.

Maybe Schedules Direct is a better source (it is in the USA). They have a free trial period. http://www.schedulesdirect.org/regions

I'd suggest you enable logging, run an EPG scan and send the output to Yaobing for diagnostics. He's a whiz at sifting through the ones and zeros and getting down to the root cause.

Hmm about 15% (guestimate) of EPG now populated. I've sent the log. Sorry, it's a little large had meant to create one specifically for EPG activity, which can still do. Yesterday all channels disappeared and had  to reconfigure TV

Your log shows that MC made three attempts at downloading EPG with mc2xml.  The first two times it failed to open the xml file that was supposed to be downloaded.  My guess is that the data supplier just did not have anything, or there is a problem with the network.  The third time MC did get 16614 program entries.

That was all I can tell as far as EPG in mc2xml mode is concerned.  When I asked for a log, I actually meant for you to try over-the-air EPG grabbing from your DVB-T tuner.  If you still want to try that, please get another log for that.

Your new logs still do not contain any OTA EPG scanning.  You probably misunderstood.

Recent builds of MC22 allows scanning of EPG data by running your DVB-T/DVB-S/DVB-C tuners and getting the EPG data from broadcast signals.  This method will not use mc2xml or any other internet method for loading EPG.

You can do it in one of these two ways:

1. By running Setup.  When you reach "Method for loading Electronic Program Guide" page, choose "Over the air signal".
2. By editing an existing profile.  TV Options.  At the bottom, under "Tuner Profiles", select an existing profile and click Configure button.  When you reach "Method for loading Electronic Program Guide" page, choose "Over the air signal".

My apologies for extra work I'm generating for you  :-( I I had assumed because I ticked OTA, see screenshot . I'll rerun setup

That checkbox is only an option to be used with OTA EPG scanning.  You still have to setup the OTA scanning first.  Normally you should not check "In Over-the-air EPG scan, save programs for channels with empty XMLTV IDs only", even if you setup OTA scanning and do use OTA scanning.  This checkbox is useful only if you are running OTA as a supplement to XML options.
