Title: What the differences between the Mac and PC versions?
Post by: djfalstaff on January 07, 2017, 02:44:10 pm
I showed JRiver to a friend of mine and he wanted it. He's a Mac guy so I was wondering if there are any important features differences before I tell him to buy it for Mac.

The biggest differences:

* No TV support (TV tuners, recording, etc)
* No visualizations
* Theater View is a little limited, but is almost on par with the Windows version
* No advanced video handling.  I.E. no madvr or Red October which allow you to change frame rates, crop, etc.

Otherwise, they are nearly identical and actually come from the same source code.  They are maintained concurrently.

There's a thread at the top of this forum that details more differences.

PS:  Have your friend try the 30 day trial.  It's 100% fully functional during the trial period.  So he can try before he buys and know exactly what he'll be getting.

Turns out that link is pinned at the top of the MC21 for Mac forum.  I guess it hasn't been moved yet.  Here's a link to it:

Turns out there are several other differences that might be important to you or your friend, so you should read through it.

Feel free to ask more questions of course.  :)
