Well, All of my cd's are finally ripped. (Finished yesturday..yahoo) and I was compiling a list of albums that I need and want. I started thinking... (uh OH!!)
In one of the views in MC you can see the album cover of what you are listening to and a couple of tabs
Bio, Lyrics, Notes. Is there any way to add another...Albums.
You can add albums of the groups that you have (either automatically or manually, Depends on who does it ;D)
There would be a check box beside each entry and you can select the ones you need. When you get a new one you can go in and uncheck it.
It would also be great if you could print a list of all the checked albums.
Is this something that is doable?? ?? ? I have absolutley no programming ability so if any one wants a challenge step right up...............
-
You've lost me.
What exactly is it you want to do?
Just get a list of your albums?
To browse or just so you can see what you have?
I have my music set up like this on my hard drive:
Full Albums/All Albums
Random Songs/Single songs, downlaods, anything random
Soundtracks/All Soundtracks
Compilations/All Compilations
Then when I want a list of all the albums I just set the filter criteria to:
O:\Full Albums\
and it just gives me a big list of what I have.
If you want to keep track of albums you dont have - I suggest just notepad and a little .txt file on your desktop called: Albums I want - thats what I do :)

That's what I do now, I just thought it would be cool to have within MC.
After all you have a Bio and Lyrics field.
-
Yeah but they're fields per song.
U can make more fields per song as well if you want.
Just go to Tools/options/tree & view settings - add any new ones u want.
Ur just seeing them in the track info page I think and presuming they're stored overall :)
-
I'm speechless. (well not really)
Not only is Nila not jumping all over this idea and adding in a hundred of his own to go a long with it... but he's actually discouraging it?
-
Doof,
Do you understand what I am getting at? Or am I just doing that bad of a job explaining??
-
I think I get what you're saying.
First of all I think what you're referring to (about being able to see the album cover and the bios etc) is a track info template. It's basically just an HTML template that MC uses to present the currently playing file's tags in a pleasant manner.
So you'd have to make your idea completely seperate from that. Track Info can't be used to store data, only display it.
It sounds more like a plugin idea than anything. Something that wouldn't even really utilize MC's database. Although with some clever programming it could probably go out to the internet and for any given artist, retrieve a list of albums, then query the database and see which of those you actually have (in complete form) and display the rest. From there, the user could add certain albums to their wish list. Could be a pretty useful tool. I'm not sure how one would go about retrieving the album info automatically from a site like AMG or something, but it would be nice. I guess a not-so-robust version could just allow you to enter in the names of the albums you want. But it could still compare that to the complete albums you have ripped...
Does that sound about right?
-
100% exactly.....
-
A clunky way to do something like what you want when playing songs is to go to Artist Info, browse to an album you want within AMG, right click in the window and choose add to favourites. This will put that album webpage into your internet favourites (in IE). If you stored them in a special 'albums I need to buy' favourites folder at least youd have some record to look at in IE when it comes to building a shopping list. Not much of an advance on an albums.txt file though.
-
See - I wasn't discouraging it - I'd love a 'todo' section of MC but it's just not a feature - it is, as pointed out - something to harrass the plugin King - King about.
I was just trying to explain the difference between track info and data stored by MC as 'notes'. :)
Dont get me wrong - : ADD IT!!!!
-
Hmmmm ok is this something the Plugin guys can do??
I have $$ and if that son't work I got BEER....
;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
-
not sure what your talking about but as i read this
You sort of can do this now can't you?
By using MC9 and using Find option.
also my plug-in "Chart Grabber" will do this for music that you select and then select "buy" if i remember it will search amazon.com for the album
also when you select a song that gets copied to the clipboard and you can use that in a P2P search.
-
King,
I think the idea is basically just for a plugin that is a 'notepad' to let you keep notes of albums to buy.
Basically so you can add items to it and remove them - fairly basic and way below ur normal skill levels I know :)
-
No Nila,
Currently you can get all the Bio's and Lyrics right...
This one would go out and retrieve the Album info (If that can't be done a field were the user can enter the album) from there it would compare this with what is in your library and it would put a checkmark besides the ones that you currently have.
You could then print out anything that does not have a checkmark and these would be the albums that you currently need/want.
This was just a crazy idea I had when I was compiling a list of music I wanted. I thought it was pretty cool so I posted it.
If no one else likes it cool, I have thick skin.
-
So a notepad of albums where u add any albums u have in mind that automatically removes any albums added that u already have?
Is that pretty much it? :)
-
Basically Yes....
-
Fair enough, doesn't sound too hard - send a six pack and blank cheque to king and I'm sure u'll get it done pretty fast :)
-
Is there anyway to change the name "Notes" to something else??
