With all of the excellent improvements going into the interface and tagging side of MC, I thought that this was a good time to discuss what I feel to be the weakest point of MC's playback - video files.
If I look at all of the video playback front ends out there right now, I think that the overall king is Zoomplayer. What makes it stand out is its highly configurable interface and tremendously deep feature set. In particular, I really appreciate the ability to create a number of aspect ratio/position/overscan presets.
So here's my wish list for video playback in Media Center:
- Manually adjustable aspect ratio (including arbitrary)
- Manually adjustable overscan
- Manually adjustable video position
- Manually adjustable video zoom
- Deinterlace filtering (DScaler filters?)
- Image controls (color, saturation, contrast, etc.)
- User-definable presets for all of the above
- Per-file presets settings (automatically launch on file playback)[/i]
- Hotkey assignable presets settings
- User definable chapter stops
- User definable subtitles
- User definable language tracks
- Variable speed playback
- Jog slider
- Advanced control bar with hide/unhide
- "resume where last left off" playback
- Access to DirectShow filters' properties
- Mouse wheel assignable to various functions (zoom, skip through file etc.)
Additional DVD Playback requests:
- Multi-region DVD
- Start DVD in full screen
- Access to audio & video filtering from Theatertek/WinDVD/PowerDVD
Thoughts?

For me I just want more basic features:
Contrast/Saturation/Brightness control.
Zoom Level - 1/2, 1, 2 - (quick keys like WMP - Ctrl+1, Ctrl+2, Ctrl+3)

I agree real-time image adjustments is very important, as are zooms. It's amazing what you can forget when your making a wish list ;).

I suggest someone recreate a new list, starting with the items from April that never got added.

I've added all of sraymond's list to mine in the first post above. They've been streamlined in some cases, but I'm pretty sure that I got them all. Please let me know otherwise.

Add the ability to crossfade the audio of videos (mpg's)like we can with mp3s and we'd have a killer program for video discos.
How i long to be able to dump my two instances of winamp, with 2 video plugins, and a crossfader between the two players. Having 2 playlists with almost non existant library facilities is driving me nuts.
Don't forget this one. I would love this feature. I have a lot of music videos which I would love to crossfade with my mp3's.

Agreed. It would make video playlists much more powerful.
