Are new builds of MC (22) installed over previous builds?

What Spike said plus, the last five build files are stored locally if you have a desire to roll back for whatever reason. Navigate to:
  Help > Update Channels > Open Download Folder ...
and you'll see what's in your archive.

I have the last six in my folder - have I found a major BUG.... :)

How does one install a new build on top of an old one? I just saw build 65 for Windows is out. I am running 54. Do I simply download 65 and run its executable?

Or - head to Help > Update and follow the signs.

Make sure you check the latest build option. Ctrl+J is the other alternative.
