Title: Android player
Post by: brihyn on January 26, 2017, 04:32:41 pm
Hey all,
I know this question has been asked on occasion, but curious if there's any update.  Any ETA for having a true JRiver for Android?
I've been messing with the free/trial versions of MediaMonkey to give me the functionality I crave, but frankly, i would MUCH rather stick with JRiver.  As a user since version 12 (and actually, still on version 18), it has every little piece of functionality I want from the PC side. I just want to be able to have the same functionality on my phone with a familiar interface.
What I"m hoping comes along (and hopefully soon)....ability to wirelessly sync playlists, and the sync would include ratings and play statistics.  A far dream would be to create smart-lists on the phone as well, but I can live without that.

So...any update? I'd prefer to spend my money on the next version of JRiver instead of flipping over if at all possible, but I want a solution sooner rather than later.

No progress.  Sorry.

Oh, NO... say it ain't so  :'(

I'm really, really looking for MC app on Android phone.

I'm running my new Galaxy S8 on Samsung's DeX docking station with a 32 inch WQHD monitor... wonderful setup ;D

Have been looking for apps that are more like desktop programs, have found several that do the job but nothing does it in Android like MC on Windows.

Have tried (to some success, more or less) Gizmo, Eos, Jet Audio & Neutron.

They all have problems of one kind or another...
    * Some are slow to load songs.
    * Some seem to have problems staying connected to the server.
    * Some don't support MC's custom playlist such as Car Radio (which I use a lot).
    * Most won't stream TV or video from my server to the phone. I do get cover art image & sound but not video.

What I really want to see is a real Android app for MC with both audio & video/TV so I can have the same experience on my phone that I have in Windows. Right now that is simply not possible.

Have you taken a look at Panel?  It's still changing so give it another look from time to time.

Panel seems to connect to my server through Gizmo. That's not what I need.

I'm on the brand new xfinity Mobile phone service. It has automatic connection to any open WyFi so I use very little or no mobile data.

There are a few occasions where WyFi is not available so the phone will switch over to mobile data for streaming (which cost me money).

I need a standalone solution for music & TV on my phone such as an app that does not require connection to any server but plays the music & videos that are stored on my phone (I have 320 GB of storage so I have all 28,000 songs in the phone).

Any plans for a real android app for MC?

Rocket Player for Android is very nice for local playback of Audio files.  It doesn't do video though.  The base version is free.  The paid version adds a few cool things like Volume Leveling using ReplayGain tags.  It's not perfect, but it's responsive and has a play queue that's similar to Playing Now in MC.

Thanks, Brian.

I'll give it a try. Too bad about no video though.  :'(
